Juan Soto is so full of crap. Just admit you did it for the money.

Two of those guys are currently on the Phillies. Pretty sure Dombrowski would have traded for Rendon's contract if you were willing to sign for under 440 million dude.

I believe it to a degree. Up to that point, sans Strasburg, we let everyone walk. However, signing with the Mets doesn't exactly scream "I want to win". I do think he wanted to spend his entire career here but once they let Harper walk I felt pretty much nobody was getting paid. The Lerners taking so long to sell the team has already cost us one generational star. Just be done with it. Move on. Take your money and build more crap in Tysons. Let somebody who wants to put money into the team take over.

i would have had a lot more respect for him if he had resigned with the Yankees.

Ultimately he was Boras' cash cow and he was going to the highest bidder.

meh, I don't see him as gaining or losing cred for signing or turning down the NYY. He was a rental at that point. he was destined to test the market from 2022 on.

He only played 2018 with Harper and was destined to be his replacement. I am skeptical that letting Harper walk after Soto's rookie season was the writing on the wall, although IIRC he didn't move to Boras's organization until after that season. Had they re-signed Turner (and had Kieboom panned out), I think he would have been comfortable thinking the team was willing to commit to contending.

In retrospect, maybe the defining on-field moment for the fate of the franchise after the WS was 7/21. Stras's injury knocking him out for the season, Corbin blowing up after a decent 2.5 month stretch from mid-April to end of June, and Schwarber's injury led to that tailspin from above-.500 and a couple games of the division lead to "let's break up the team for what we can get" sell-off, which I think doomed re-signing Soto.

Not me, If I were in his shoes, I'd rather be the #1 superstar on the team rather than playing in the shadows of say, Aaron Judge. But that's just me.

Mets down by 2 in the bottom of the ninth yesterday with runners on 1st and 3rd, and two outs. Juan Soto vs. Josh Hader.

Soto let a drive bounce off his glove and up against the RF wall on Friday. Lost a pop-fly in the sun today...as if he had not played RF at Nationals Park in a day game. When Alex Call hit one down the RF line, I knew it would be a double since Soto is slow and has a weak arm. Sure enough...

Nats traded Soto to get James Wood. Great trade. And the Padres gave the Nats a few other players in that deal.

Calling it now: Within three years, Soto has an Acuna-type reputation

Juan Soto is very good.

Juan Soto will be a Hall of Famer

Mets paid him a shocking amount for a guy who will be best as a DH in the not distant future.

No reason he can’t play 1B.  You think he would be worse than Alonso?

If I was the Mets, I'd use 1B as DH lite.

If a player can't play the outfield but has an incredible bat, I say just put him at DH and make certain he is healthy and fresh. Not worth having Soto stretching for a ball and have a collision or some other accident and get him hurt.

I'll say the same thing if the James Wood LF experiment becomes unsteady in the long term.

Against a lefty, when they are playing Marte, you wonder whether they should be giving Marte a shot in right and DHing Soto. Marte is not great shakes out there, either.

Mets  could have Soto share 1B.DH with Alonso.

Soto's ego won't let him DH

Then the Mets have bought themselves a problem. Alonso is a decent fielder, and Soto is not. Do they make Alonso their DH and teach Soto to play 1B?

Looked at Outs Above Average for 2024. Alonso was 36 out of 40 first basemen.  Just ahead of Josh Bell. If they keep Alonso he’s older and probably won’t get sleeker.  More logical to have him DH.

Yankees fans booing Juan Soto is absolutely hilarious. The guy played for you for one year. ONE. Try being the fanbase of the team that developed him and won a World Series with him. He was in our organization for nearly 10 years and the fans here cheered him when he came back. Get out of here lol
