Happy Thanksgiving
« on: November 28, 2024, 04:05:17 am »
As one Englishman once said...

“As one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone unto many.”

Hope all WNFF'ers have an enjoyable day.  :D

(and I'm sure there's no truth, to the rumor, that the entry for the Nationals in the mlb.com article 'one reason for each team to be thankful' reads 'beacuse it's the off-season and they're not playing...'  ;) )

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our members and lurkers, even the bots!

Today I'm thankful for the chance to exchange thoughts about the Nats and other stuff with you and to meet some of you in real life.

bump.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I'm grateful for y'all and the conversations we've had over the past year. Grateful also  that any health issues have been ones I've seemed to have shaken off the past couple of years.

Enjoy the day!  (currently experiencing the strange experience of UK coverage of the Chiefs game being presented from a Phillies themed sports bar...)

Methinks it was the presentation of the Cowboys game...which is even stranger from a Phillies themes sports bar...

Ah - lapsing into UK fandom. Over here, we don't have the geographical emphasis of the US - fans of any team talk about games of their team, whether home or on the road. So Nats games are always Nats games, home or away.

Really? It doesn't make a difference if a game is at Anfield vs. Etihad?

I was simply referring to how a game is described. In the US the game. on Thanksgiving, would be described as the Cowboys game. Over here, Chiefs fans would call it 'the Chiefs game' even though it was in Dallas. To follow your analogy, if the game was at Anfield, City fans would still say 'the City game on (day)...' - they (generally) wouldn't call it the Liverpool game.

I think it  is  pretty much limited to the Lions and the Packers games on Thanksgiving because they always have games on the holiday. I guess the Red Sox  game at 11 AM on the Monday of the Boston Marathon (a/k/a Marathon Monday or Patriots Day) is also sometimes referred to as the Red Sox game.

I refer to it as The Patriot Day game. Maybe because I’m not from the area.

Locals are similar to you. It's the Patriot's Day game or Marathon Monday game mostly because it's assumed to be a Red Sox game.

It's a pain in the butt for the players, but I do like these special holiday games. Sox on Patriot's Day, Nats 7/4 too. I don't like the 11 AMs for Roku or whatever network that MLB has for normal Sundays.
