Soto meeting with the Dodgers today.

I think if he signs with the Phillies or Dodgers I'm probably just done with baseball. Especially the Dodgers but its far worse to me that we couldn't afford one of Turner, Harper, Schwarber or Soto but they managed to sign all 4. Basically signals this ownership group is just cashing checks and doesn't care about winning.

i saw a report earlier, can't recall from who, saying that these are all just preliminary meetings at this point and that no team has actually made an offer to Soto.

Dodgers are the lessers of those two EVILS.  If he goes to the Mets it will suck, but if he goes to Philly I' done.  Anybody other team......whatever.

I agree with you... what's the point in following MLB if there's only 4-5 teams (out of 30) that are actually trying to win? As much as I love the game, I don't see myself quitting following MLB but the MLB top brass has to come up with a solution to this BS.

Juan Soto is seeking a 12-14 year deal for $45 million per season with opt outs after the third and fourth seasons (reporte de

No one is giving him that with opt outs.

Gives him more options.

Give him a 14 year, 630 million deal. Front load the first two or three years at like 55-65 million AAV. He opts out and signs for another monster deal and makes way more cash

Why would a team pay all that money upfront to lose him in two or three years?

Because you literally get prime Soto for market value and then don't have to pay anything on the back end. This is actually affordable to a lot more teams.

hypothetically, if you are the Nats, you are paying him before Crews and Wood, Herz and Irvin maybe, and House get expensive. That's about the only way the Nats can bid on Soto.

There is a long list of guys who have broken down a couple of years into huge contracts

We have a thread for this, but three seasons would be PERFECT for the Nats. Crews, Wood, and Abrams don't have to try and develop while being the primary target for opposing pitchers. You have a ton of young, cost controlled talent. If you convince Soto to DH instead of insisting playing RF, you can keep a good defensive OF, play Lipscomb at third base, and make House the centerpiece of a deal for a pitcher. That would leave you with enough money leftover to get a first baseman and a quality reliver, and still not crack 150 million in the payroll until 2027.

That's a fair point, but it seems unlikely with a guy who is currently 26. Yea, its a gamble. But its literally the only way a team like the Nationals, Tigers, D-Backs, Padres, or Mariners are going to be able to afford him.

He’s still got years in his prime after those opt outs.

That's the price you pay for not having 650 million to commit.

You can have 0 years of Juan Soto or two years. Which is more beneficial to your team?

gee, I noticed who is missing.

You don't suppose Marky Mark and the In-Laws get a chance to match or beat the best offer, in memory of Pops?

From a team perspective now seems like an ideal time to lock into a huge long-term huge contract denominated in USD.

lol, Jays made an offer and the Nats haven't. That's crazy considering that the Jays earn all their revenue in $CAD (which is very weak right now compared to USD)

They also get 10-15 times as many viewers as the Nats get per game, and are owned by a large media company that benefits from that.

But, they are usually just the patsy in these things to help drive up the price.

True. If I had to bet, I would think he'd go the Mets since no one can outbid Cohen as discussed earlier in this thread.

Mike Rodriguez tweets that he's heard the Red Sox have offered Soto 12 years / $600 million. Hector Gomez says 13/$625

Gotta hope Rizzo was planning on getting a black friday discount to sign him.

Yankees offer likely to top out around $550M.
- Believes Soto has 2-3 offers over $600M already / won’t take discount to stay w/ NYY.
- ”I’m hearing the Yankees fear the Red Sox more than anyone.”
- Thinks it’ll be Mets vs Red Sox.

Given the choice, I'd like it if we saw him at Nat's Park every other year in the regular season rather than twice a year. We could give him a hand, break out our shirts, and be grateful we weren't tormented by him more frequently.

If Spidernat still was active, he'd have a field day with this.
