Wasn't Stras at $235MM for 7 years?

7 years, actually $245 million, but some deferrals I think. Yes, smaller total dollars than Stras, with an extra year. The length lowers the AAV for CBT purposes, but leaves an overhang late in the contract. Yanks better hope he's like Max, but doesn't seem that durable.

Crochet to the Red Sox for 4 prospects, including Kyle Teel (C, MLB #25), Braden Montgomery (OF, MLB #54), Chase Meidroth (IF, system #11) and Winkelman Gonzalez (P, system #14).

I think we could have matched the Red Sox offer for Crochet.

I don't. Montgomery was thought to be a top 10 pick that we surprisingly passed when we took Seaver King. Kyle Teel is substantially better than any position player in our minor league system right now with Crews in the majors. Unless we were trading off our MLB roster, we could not match Teel, Montgomery, and two decent prospects. Gonzalez would have been Susana.

for high schoolers. More common for college kids. And there's a difference between 1/1 and 1/11.
Sure, but it's still a relatively high level pick.  Shows the risk.  I have PTSD from Mickey Moniak.

Good get for the cubs, but steep price for 1 year. Smith raked his way up to aa last year.

How much do y’all think tucker will get in free agency next year?

I’m thinking 10/$360m-$420m if he has a typical year for him

Cubs have a deep farm and Tucker is a big upgrade over Paredes. Seems like a good move to me.

They're going to dump Suzuki and probably Cody Bellinger too. The Cubs are giving up a lot for one year of Tucker.

Are they dumping them for prospects or different major league pieces? If it's the former I agree it doesn't make sense.
