Be thankful. With this trade, their payroll slips under ours.

Rizzo still has time to catch them

Sean Manaea back to the Mets for 3yr/$75M.

Walker Buehler signs with the Red Sox for 1yr/$21.05M.

I had kinda hoped the Nats would be in on Buehler for a 1 year deal but I guess that ship sailed after the Soroka signing.

Per Heyman: Corbin Burnes to Arizona. $210M / 6 with an opt out after 2

that's essentially the Strasburg contract in AAV less one year in length. The opt out adds value.

Not counting Ohtani, this is 6th in total dollar commitment for a pitcher, behind Yamamoto ($325 million), G. "not AJ" cole ($324), Strasburg ($245), Fried ($218), and  Kershaw's 2014-2020 contract ($215), and ties Max's 7 year deal with the Nats.

I saw a report that SF offered more, but Burnes took Arizona's offer.

also, Teoscar to re-sign with the LAD per MLBTR, drawing from 3 reporters (Yancel Pujols, Chris Cotillo, and Jeff Passan).

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/12/dodgers-to-re-sign-teoscar-hernandez.html

Interesting structure. $66 million, 3 years, including a $23 million signing bonus and the same amount being deferred, plus a $15 million option for a 4th year. Essentially, he's playing at $15 million per year for 3 or 4 years with a bonus deferred. Seems incredibly cheap, but it's where he wants to be

They were trying to corner the markets on Corbins.  Need Patrick back.

Alonso and Bregman, both Boras, are the only FAs left expected to get $100 million+ contracts.

I think there is a good chance Alanso comes in lower than expected

I think original expectations were 5 years, $125 million (FG crowd source median & MLB trade rumors), and 7 years, $140 million (Ben Clemens). I buy this:

Quote
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand hears from various executives around the league that Alonso’s next contract might involve an opt-out clause or two, thus allowing Alonso to re-enter the market potentially as early as the 2025-26 offseason.  Alonso’s agent Scott Boras has included such opt-out provisions in several of his clients’ deals in recent years, in some cases creating an extra level of flexibility for teams and for players coming off less-than-ideal platform years.

5 / $125 million with an opt out sounds right.

IIRC Alonso turned down a $150M extension from the Mets. Not sure what the years would have been but it's looking like that was a mistake on his and Boras' part.

At this point, he's gonna take a one year deal of some kind

That’s Boras admitting defeat. He’ll take the best he can and spin it as a win

Yea but it could be a win next year. Like with Blake Snell.

According to the below, the Blue Jays have offered Santander 4/$82 million.

Rough offseason for the Birds.

$20.5M a year for a guy who has been around a 3 WAR player for the last two years (and 2.3 three years ago) does seem reasonable.

Not quite the replacement for Burnes that the O's fans were hoping for.

Elias really is going to waste all the prospect capital the O's have, isn't he?
