i've put two kids through W&M, i can relay this stuff in my sleep. :)

we were just at Wren last week for graduation pictures before they encase it in scaffolding for repairs. Part of a massive construction project underway at the school right now.

Our oldest daughter graduated there in 2009...

My lasting recollection was when the then President, Nichol, told the incoming students "You were all in the top 10% of your class when you graduated High School...when you graduate W&M, 90% of you won't be."  I though that was a good grounding speech...though he himself got grounded not long after following some stupid moves that pissed off the donors.

We were there for the Queen's 50th anniversary of her first visit...that was quite something...

I guess the big question for you guys is did your daughters do the Triathlon?

(1) Jump the wall of the Governor's Palace in Colonial Williamsburg and/or run through the maze of the Governor's Palace, (2) Swim (sometimes naked) in the Crim Dell, (3) streak across the Sunken Garden

Daughter claims she did with her roommate but not completely naked.

She was on the judicial council and got to meet Sondra Day O'Connor.  I think that was the highlight.  Or maybe Jon Stewart visit.

My oldest graduated last year. Patton Oswalt was the keynote speaker. He began his speech by saying he was only going to talk to the C students because the A&B students didn't need to hear from anyone, they would be fine. He then relayed his own experiences being a C student as proof that even C students could be successful. :)

This past May's commencement speech was among the best speeches that I have ever watched. You and your daughter would enjoy:

My older son did it, but wore his boxers and just dipped a foot into the CD. A student died jumping in a few years ago in the dark so most don't do that anymore. It's actually the run across the SG then into the CD IIRC.

Don't look now but W&M is 4-0 in conference and all alone in first place.

Surprisingly easy win for Yale although Princeton had quite the comeback at the end.

George Mason is having a very good year. 21-5 and only one conference loss. Next up at VCU.

remain one of only 2 teams undefeated in conference (along with the Akron Zips) after pulling out a home win vs Penn last night. Took a bench freshman Isaac Celiscar (from Orlando) scoring the last 3 points and making a steal with 4 seconds left to win by 1. Jones took the foot off the pedal midway through the 1st half, resting starters with a lead, and let Penn back into the game at half time. Yale had a comfortable 8 point lead with about 7 minutes left then blew it on a 9-0 run. Outrebounded, which is a shock. Won on an off night from their top scorer.

Tonight's game hosting Princeton is on the ESPNU at 8.

And a much less annoying coach.

not to criticize Dan Hurley, but James Jones is wonderful. I don't quite know why no school with more money / profile hasn't made him an offer he couldn't refuse. At this point, he's probably going to overtake Carill for most wins for an Ivy coach in 5 years, provided he can still get players. I think that, in 26 years, his teams have never finished below 4th in the Ivies.

All that said, they didn't do a good job on their out of conference schedule so I don't think they deserve even the token vote despite having the longest win streak in the country and being the last D1 team not to lose in conference. I think their best out of conference win was Akron in the Sun Bowl tournament. Dropped a few close road games at power conference teams, but they were not the top of conferences.

One of their top players is a senior from Potomac, Bez Mbeng. Bez had the 2d and 3d triple doubles in Yale history this month. The first also had 5 steals, which hadn't been done in D1 for several years. Going to be Ivy defensive player of the year 3 straight years, but he probably will not get the most votes for PoY in the Ivies as they have 2 other candidates.

Radford - Presbyterian on Friday at 2:30 in the Big South
W&M Sunday at 2:30 versus the CAA game 4 winner at CareFirst Arena in SE DC. If W&M makes it to the finals next week we plan to go.

After a win at Dartmouth to go to 12-0 in the Ivies, Harvard knocked off yale in Cambridge Saturday to end the longest D1 win streak in the country (13) and the last unbeaten in conf play. Harvard pretty much led wire to wire. Another triple double for Bez but Poulokidas had a meh night with 12 or so points. Might be a good thing to get the loss out of the way. NIT is already guaranteed with winning the reg season, and lunardi has them as a 13 seed assuming they win the ivy tournament. Wouldn't mind a 12.

Radford beat Presbyterian in one of the worst basketball games I have ever seen. Radford went something like the final 6.5 minutes without a field goal and basically won on free throws in OT.  They play #1 High Point at noon today in the semi finals.

W&M plays Delaware in the CAA semis. They have much better record but lost to Delaware during the regular season.

This year the Sun Belt tournament had by far the strangest bracket I’ve ever seen. The way it’s shown on Wikipedia is a great way to see just how weird it is.
