25 million with a 22 million deductible? they were actually paying for 3 million in coverage? That's can't be right?
I'm not totally sure.  The articles are all a bit confusing.  Maybe $47 million less $22 million deductible

The deductible is $22 million.  They had higher coverage but chose to lower it to save a couple hundred thousand.

https://www.insurancejournal.com/news/southeast/2024/11/05/800043.htm

"Local news outlets reported that St. Petersburg, home of the Tampa Bay Rays and the domed Tropicana Field, in March reduced the policy limits on the stadium from $100 million to $25 million. The reduction, along with a $22 million deductible, saved the city about $275,000 in annual premiums, WUSF public radio reported."

I don't understand insurance and deductibles. Is the $25 million for the next $25 million after the deductible, or does a policy that has a $22 million in deductible mean the insured's benefits only get triggered for damage between $22 and $25 million?

This explains it better.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/tropicana-field-can-be-fixed-and-ready-for-2026-after-hurricane-damage-but-questions-remain-about-rays-stadium/

"First off, it sure looks like they should've kept that $100 million policy, but what's done is done. Basically what happens now for the repairs is the city would have to pay that $22 million deductible before $25 million in insurance money can be used on the repairs. That would get them to $47 million of the estimated $55 million, adding another $8 million to the city's bill."

So seems to me $30 million city has to pay.  Deductible ($22) and another $8.
I know these writers have deadlines but if I wrote like this when I worked would have been laughed at.  Also none of what I have found mentions what the deductible was on the $100 million policy.  If it was $30 million then it's a wash.  who knows.

I doubt the drainage is very good inside.  Being Florida, there's surely been buckets of rain since the roof got shredded...could be icky.

Hasn't been much rain the past few weeks.  Dry season.  But another storm headed there.  Maybe.  I would assume they would put a temp cover while starting the process??

there is no drainage. The stadium wasn't designed with the idea that the roof would be gone at some point.

There is already an effort underway to install drainage on the idea that they might be able to play without the roof next season.

Since we have 2 teams basically relegated to playing in AAA stadiums, let's keep the ball rolling.   Promotion and relegation would make baseball a lot more interesting in the regular season.

Rays announce they will play home games next year at Steinbrenner field in Tampa. It is currently the Yankees' spring training field and the home of their A-level Tampa Tarpons affiliate.

That looks like a much nicer place to watch a ball game than the Trop.  Are they going to cover up all the Yankees logos during the seaon?

Yeah. I will probably take in a game there. It’s not as far for me either.

Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yankees have a great spring training facility in Tampa...they wouldn't even have to add any seats...maybe take some out...

Steinbrenner makes all the sense in the world...just have to do something with the A ball Tarpons that play there...

Why are they even contemplating fixing that sh*thole?? No one went there, why throw good money after bad?? Find them a new place to play where people might want to go and figure it out, wasting tens of millions on that depressing stadium is madness.

The county and city have a requirement to find them a place to play.  Which is why they will play derby this year and why the stadium will be fixed.  No real choice.

Pinellas county delayed their bond vote, meaning the stadium wouldn't be ready until 2029 instead of 2028 and the Rays are pissed.

Beginning of the end in Tampa I think. Or I should say St Pete. Charlotte or Nashville?

They’ve had a long time to get fans and still haven’t managed it. I’m glad to see a city saying no

Year after year in the 1990s, I watched as MLB awarded expansion teams to AAA town in Florida. Still burns me that Miami and Tampa Bay got teams while RFK waited for the Redskins and football season. And Denver and Phoenix, a couple more non-baseball towns.

Send the Rays off to oblivion, or to Montreal. Or Oakland. Or call them the "Browns" and let them share the stadium in St. Louis.

I agree. It was ridiculous of MLB to award teams in those cities before D.C., especially the two in Florida.

I always wanted to see them in  northern New Jersey as the Raritan Bay Rays.
