Talknats:
Isn't that just a bit more than what they shed with the Corbin contract?
TalkNats' math is wrong. He has Corbin at $23.3 million, which is 140 million divided by 6 years. However, he actually made $35 million last year, $25 million + $10 million deferred to this year. So if you take the $35 million number plus another $15 million for Gallo, Lane Thomas, and Kyle Finnegan, that's $50 million right there off the books.Even with the $25 million number, active payroll is down from $60.3 million to $50.6 million, which even with Ogasawara leaves them 29th. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/_/year/2025/sort/cap_active
Whoa! We’re #5!https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/43520980/mlb-2024-25-olney-five-most-improved-teams-2025-reds-rangers-red-sox-diamondbacks-nationals
Not sure how the Dodgers aren't #1 on this list. There's no way we've added more talent to the roster than they have.
Dodgers percentage of improvement is small given the baseline.
Wood and Herz:https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-breakout-candidates-who-could-build-on-small-sample-success-in-2025
Although his ERA+ was below average at 97, some of his other performance indicators were far stronger, including a 3.26 expected ERA, a 3.77 SIERA, a 3.71 FIP and a 27.7% strikeout rate. Herz’s four-seam fastball was particularly impressive, generating a +9 run value with the third-highest whiff rate (30.5%) among starting pitchers (min. 300 swings on four-seamers) behind Ryan Pepiot and Garrett Crochet.
Wood #98 on MLB top 100. Only Nat.
Farm is remarkably thin for a team that’s had five straight losing seasons.
They promoted 2 starters and 3 outfieders, 2 studs. The system is a bit thin due to promotions. That was KLaw's point when he ranked the system 17th
That's still thin with Wood and Crews. They have nowhere near the talent the Orioles did after their rebuild.
Svrluga's latest:"If the time wasn’t right for the Nationals to spend, when will it be?"https://wapo.st/3WB478H
Yea most teams at the bottom are unable to accumulate as much talent as the Orioles. And most need help from free agents. Even the Astros in their prime needed to get Cole and Verlander from other teams.
