so in all 4 series, it's now the lower seed with the opportunity to close it out on their home field with 2 wins.

Tigers absolutely had to win the Skubal game. Goes 5, he can start on normal rest.

The AL series only require 3 starters.

Alanzo with a homer and Winker with an upper deck blast. 2-0 Mets in 6th.

Thompson not pulling Nola just cost his team the playoffs

The Phillies bullpen has been horrid this series.  I can't blame the manager for trying to ride Nola.

I'll borrow a line that Ali dropped on us about 8 years ago:

"It's the difference between a crap sandwich and eating a crap sandwich with barbed wire."

I'll take mine plain, thank you...

Looked to me that Machado was out of the baseline. Hard to believe Roberts just sat in the dugout.

As bad as things look for the Phillies I would think tomorrow is almost a must win for the Mets. If the Phills win tomorrow they would be going back home Friday night with Wheeler on the mound.

Padres smoking the Dodgers. I want to root for the Padres over the Dodgers but they're not a very likable team. Profar twice not letting people know if he caught the home run ball or not. Betts running around the bases thinking he hit a home run on the first one and thinking he was out on the second when he wasn't. Machado throwing the ball at the Dodgers dugout.

Pretty much how I feel, plus Ohtani is just so damn likeable.

how crazy would it be for San Diego to make the NLCS "after" trading Soto?

After the big start through the top of the 3rd, thing settled down. Good bullpen work for both teams after the 5th.

Teoscar probably making himself a lot of money after this year. Playing in 2024 for $23.5 million, with $8.5 million deferred (for Ian's benefit).

Buehler settled down. Hurt by some missed plays and mistakes in the big inning. Would you play for him as a FA, maybe 1 -2 years high dollars? Hard to beat the Dodgers in a bidding war, and if they don't want to keep him, is that a yellow flag?

The Padres seem to take the opposite approach to the post-Bowden Nats in terms of player development and acquisition: if you're good at baseball, character be damned!

During the regular season, I searched the words "Shohei Ohtani" a lot on Twitter because, you know, him constantly doing amazing unprecedented things and such. The Twitter algorithm concluded that I was a Dodgers fan and now shows me tweets from random Dodger fan accounts. No amount of hiding these posts and telling Twitter I am not interested in Teoscar Hernandez highlights has convinced the Twitter algorithm to do anything different.

Oh boy are those Dodger fan accounts mad right now.

I'd be really curious as to whether they hate the Padres this year more than the Giants.

Among the sort of super teams, I kind of like the Dodgers. I'll always be a Mookie fan, and Freeman I like and respect. I've always thought Teoscar was good and like that he's playing well. Both for the Dodgers and the Braves, this has been a year that showed injuries can break even the best teams (other than the Yankees).

I mean, they should be? The Dodgers gambled their pitching on young arms and question marks. They rolled the dice and now they're pitching a bullpen game in an elimination game.

And the second half of their lineup is freaking putrid right now. No idea how they thought Gavin Lux, Miguel Rojas, and Tommy Edman were even remotely decent options for the playoffs.

It's just sort of weird. I'm sure there's somebody who says you take enough gambles, a few will turn out well and you can surround them. Maybe some others said they shouldn't be making long term commitments to FAs because they have all these young arms, even if it means taking a chance on having some trouble making a deep run if nothing pans out right. But it's strange that a team with a ton of position depth let themselves get into this position.
