20th Anniversary Thread
« on: September 20, 2024, 06:20:47 pm »
There might be a lot of this coming up, but thought I'd start with the relocation announcement.

On Sept 24, 2004 the Potomac Cannons announced they were affiliating with the Montreal Expos, with few doubting what was coming next.  Five days later MLB announced the move of the major league team.

Looks like the Nats have a logo for the 20th Anniversary Season: https://news.sportslogos.net/2024/11/18/washington-nationals-to-celebrate-20-years-with-special-logo-in-2025/baseball/

I think I like the 10th Anniversary logo better, but this is fine.

I remember when my dad told me. I was playing All Star Baseball on my PS2 which had a create a team mode. I immediately started creating the team by copying all the existing Expos players but with the new Nationals team name.

There's an event tonight for SPH since 2005. There's a q & a promised. Not sure I'm going as I've been dealing with some leg issues lately.

I passed on tonight. As much the cold and working until a short while ago as the leg.

I didn’t see Bernadina’s catch either. Our Young’s.

Wasn't the 04 July game (the day before this thread) the one where Sunny Kim refused to give the ball to Frank??   :hysterical:

It was hot and RFK was sold out, that much I remember vividly.

As I remeber those days -- 2000 until 2004 -- MLB considered contraction. The Twins and Expos were dying and would be contracted. Too weak. Of course, I hoped that someone with good sense would bring the Twins back to Washington.

Of course, Baltimore objected...Angelos declared that The District was part of Baltimore. He had opened a team store downtown. I "met" CalsGR8 online, in an email group, maybe connected with the Washington Baseball Historical Society. She was among the people organizing protests against Angelos.

About then, my daughter had given me a Mitchell & Ness replica 1959-60 Nats home jersey, number 3, autographed by Harmon Killebrew himself. I swore never to wear it until Washington got a team again.
