Looks like I picked a good night for leaving work a bit late, taking an hour bike ride, showering, deciding to grab take out dinner from a kiosk at the park next door, have them take a long time, then flipping on the game down 6-3. Didn't pay attention to the next 3 runs while I ate and put away laundry.
In the absence of Mitlen, the buccos had us all the way
Three cheers for a nod to Mitlen!
I took the time to read the second game of a double header on September 1, 1924. Ever so impressed with Joe Judge, the quick and slick-fielding 1B for the Nationals, starting a 3-6-3 DP in the second game, and 6 for 7 on the day, with 3 doubles (up to 34 on the season) and his 8th triple.
If the 2024 Nats had a 1B like Judge, we could forget about lumbering power hitters like Gallo and Chaparro and Yepez. Judge was batting .319 with an OPS of .839. That is well above anyone in the current Nats lineup.
Painful to flip to the game after having read about Earl McNeely (CF), Bucky Harris (2B), Sam Rice (RF), Goose Goslin (LF), Judge (1B), Ossie Bluege (3B) Muddy Ruel (C), and Roger Peckinpaugh (SS).
