He'd only played 36 games at 3B in the minors. He looks like a guy with the overall skill level but no experience.
When he turned on that throw, it was clear he had no idea where to expect 1B to be. 3B is quite difficult when you get to plays that stretch the envelope in any direction.
been pointing this out for a while. I try to track plays where 3B experience might have helped. There's been a few too many grounders through the legs but even those the ball is getting on him quicker than SS. Throw angles, the need to charge and throw sidearm like Zim in his prime, the need to dive, all of these things are kind of obvious 3B skills that you don't learn at SS. Adding that he's doing it against guys like Judge (Blue911 had a good comment how nuts you have to be to play 3rd when he up) rather than other teams' equivalents of Carter Kieboom and Jake Alu, and you get why he is having so much trouble. I hope he plays winter ball at 3rd somewhere like the Dominican Winter League.
