Spot on...except I don't care about Royce...he showed us his true colors when he mailed-in the 2018 season, and the 2019 roster was better without him...
Lol, your vitrol for Harper is so funny.

Dude posted a 135 OPS+ in his "mailed-in" season. His career to that point was 139.

announced attendance was over 32,000. By my rough guestimate it was 70-30 Yankees to Nats fans.
That seems right, but I was on the 3rd base side with a lot of single game ticket purchasers. I'm not sure how it felt on the 1st base side. I think that the noise imbalance had to do a lot with the NYY breaking on top literally from the first batter. There were more or less 2 things to cheer about all night - the 2 homers - and maybe a successful fielding play or two. I'm not sure the NYY fans would be so brave if there weren't a series of spectacular fielding plays in the OF and some nice wriggling out of jams by Cortes.

Even still, he was a fan favorite and a Superstar that they let walk for absolutely nothing. To me that was the first major red flag. That's when I told myself "if you aren't going to pay that guy then who will you pay?" and just expected it to keep happening but hoping it didn't. I already know there is no point in getting attached to Crews/Wood/Abrams/House/Sykora etc. because the Lerners are not going to pay any of them. You can't grow a fanbase that way. Its in the back of all of our minds and we're the fans that watch everyday so imagine what its like for casual fans who just want a superstar to root for and they keep letting them leave...

We let Harper go because he had become a distraction, and because Rizzo and crew (correctly) calculated that Eaton & Corbin > Harper.  Remember, had we signed Harper there was no money / cap space to sign Corbin, and we would have had to have traded Eaton to make room for Harper with Robles in CF and Soto in LF.  Eaton and Corbin were instrumental to the 2019 WS championship.

My guess is the final straw for Harper was when he tweeted a picture of himself, Robles, and Soto as the OF of the future or something like that, while Eaton was still on the team.

That was a weird game. The Tena fly out to dead center in the gap, Judge stealing the homer, the Yankees dropping a couple homers barely over. Just seems like a bad luck game and the Nats didn't help themselves.

But some folks say they still gave him a fair offer so they still wanted him!

Well it all worked out for 2019.  Not so good thereafter.  Someday they will write books and we will learn more. C'est la vie.

I know it's time for the Lerners to spend some dough but I imagine the Cubs and Red Sox fans aren't too happy. The Cubs and Red Sox are 3rd and 4th in revenue but 7th and 11th in payroll. It doesn't seem like they ever sign the top free agents anymore.

Ruiz' shot to LF was a home run in most stadiums I'd guess.

I thought for sure that was a HR and couldn't believe Judge had a shot at it.  Would have changed the game for sure.

And we managed to get through the game without anyone saying Crews Missile. Oh...   :D   ;)

just before the game they do a contest whereby a fan can pick the Nats player they think will hit the first HR of the game for the Nats. The fan they picked was wearing a Crews jersey and the stadium emcee did use the term "Crews Missile"

Ugh.

I love it.  Need a Tom Cruise appearance also down the line.

He chased his hitting stats...he quit the team on defense...

There was money. The Lerners just wouldn't spend it. Covid hadn't even hit yet and their business outside of baseball was booming. They were the richest owners in baseball and I get that's not how it works but the idea they couldn't spend more I just don't agree with

Camel told him to do that.  Wasn't much of it being forced to play CF cause Eatin was hurt?  He's no CF.

Dunno...I remember him just jogging after balls he used to get to in the RF gap...
