Slashing .293/.349/.397 in his last 15 games / 58 ABs. Sign of life across a not super small sample size!

Cubbage notes that Crews has now walked 6 times in his last 15 games after only 1 walk in the previous 15.

.310/.385/.466/.851 in his last 15 games.

Ben Clemens chat:

Quote
2:11
SPArn: Since 6/16, Dylan Crews is slashing .279/.347/.412, good for a 112 wRC+. K% 24, BB% 8. Sock and a shoe yesterday, career max EV around 113 last week. I think I’m starting to believe (again). You?

2:11
Ben Clemens: this is why earlier this year, when we were talking a lot here about the potential of trading Dylan Crews, I think our chat consensus was that they couldn’t do it

2:12
Ben Clemens: and not entirely because of his current form, but because come on, he was a huge prospect once, he might bounce back, and if he does we’d be quick to believe

2:12
Ben Clemens: so yeah, I’m cautiously optimistic for sure. takes less to convince me when the tools are there

.371 OPS against RHP over that time period. Time to move on.

Now a .339 OPS against RHP since June 16. He's a platoon option at this point.

An OPS lower than half the team's OBP is not bad luck. Its bad hitting.

My thought remains that Dylan Crews isn't blocking any prospect from ABs. Maybe you could make the argument for Morales at DH, but I don't think that's where they want Morales. Keep letting Crews play.

Long term, I believe he is a #4 OF. As a floor he could make a career as a decent backup who can cover all three spots and be solid against LHP. Nothing wrong with that for Crews, he can make a career doing it, but it can't be in Washington. He remains for me a "fresh start" trade candidate this winter.

If thats the justification, then we arent competing for a playoff spot. Which means we are selling at the deadline.

Last 7 Games including thru the 6th inning tonight:   3 for 22  .136/.240/.273/.513

  Batting 3rd...

  What am I missing?

Same logic that gets you Young hitting 5th and Garcia hitting against LHP.

maybe a hopeful comparison?

https://www.vivaelbirdos.com/st-louis-cardinals-analysis/68380/what-should-the-st-louis-cardinals-do-with-jordan-walker

Quote
Jordan Walker is a riddle wrapped up in enigma hidden inside of a 3-lock box for the St. Louis Cardinals. Since his major league debut in 2023, Walker has seen the optimism about his abilities fade into pessimism about whether he really can be fixed.

I asked the question of what you would do if you were President of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom regarding Jordan Walker’s future. The answers varied from letting him be the starting right fielder for the Cardinals on Opening Day because the team doesn’t have a better option, send him to the low minor leagues and make him earn his promotions back to the big club or designate him for assignment.

First 3 seasons:
- 2023: .276 / .342 / .445
- 2024: .201 / .253 / .366
- 2025: .215 / .278 / .306

2026: .294 / .354 / .532

Not to pile  on, but a q & a about Crews in Brendan Gawlowski chat from Tuesday:

Quote
2:41
cosmichero: What went wrong for Dylan Crews? Was he overrated as a prospect? It seems like he missing the strong trait that he should be able to lean in the MLB while he improves on the edges, unless that trait is just overall high-end athleticism

2:41
Brendan Gawlowski: A lot of his power/damage was to the opposite field and it hasn’t translated to pro ball

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/brendan-gawlowski-prospects-chat-7-14-26/

Before he became a prospect guy for Fangraphs, he was a pro scout for the Pirates.

well, it's a chat.

Otoh, does he do damage to right? Not Ryan Zimmerman for sure.
