Couple hits yesterday in Bennett's los, but cost a run on a bad throw to second. Still hitting about .287.

Slashing .281/.353/.374. Only three homers but a tidy six steals. Not bad for his first full season in A+.

Also, he simply looks like an athlete. Passes the eye test. I think his floor is someday being a solid backup catcher.

College boy. Do they push him to AA for August, or let him finish the year in Wilmington?

While he has a single digit K%, he's swinging an awful lot with a mid-70s contact rate and low iso. Sounds like Keibert at this point but better than the level of assignment.

Only has a 40 grade on his hit tool on Fangraphs (30 current). Seems to expect his best path to being a major leaguer is to develop a bit of pop.

Good question! I assume in Sept that Millas is up full time and they perhaps bump catchers behind them up.

Lomavita isn't age inappropriate for A+, so he doesn't need to move up. Pulled up Harrisburg stats and Max Romero, and former 9th round pick out of Miami, is only 24. Slashing .235/.298/.377 which isn't great but is a step up over his performance last year in Wilmington. I wouldn't be surprised if they quietly like Romero and want to see both him and Lomavita handle full seasons at their levels. I don't think the Nationals have ever rushed catchers.

I don't think the Nats have ever drafted and developed a catcher while in DC.

Flores Rule 5.
Ramos via trade.
Weiters free agent.
Studzuki & Gomes.
Ruiz & Adams.

Millas probably spent the most time in the Nats minors, and he was obtained in the Harrison / Gomes trade.

Raudy "Roddy" Read, though right after he got called up he got suspended for PEDs.

Sandy Leon is another.

Jesus Flores (though he was a Rule 5 draftee from the Mets)

Jesus Flores came up through our system as well (though he was a Rule 5 draftee from the Mets after only a year of rookie ball)
I won't give you Flores. He never played in the minors for the Nats before his MLB debut. Didn't spend significant time in the minors until 2011.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=flores004jes shows him bouncing around the majors, minors, and Venezuelan winter leagues including 56 games at Syracuse. But yeah, he wasn't one we developed.  I fixed my original post.

That's a decent depressing point.

Norris was traded. Pineda, Reetz never really happened.

One guy who played a few years regularly in the majors was Pedro Severino. stunk here, but contributed to the Os from 2019 to 2021

And Wilmington is an extreme pitchers park, no?

Seems to be, his offensive value was good for a 112 wRC+.

Keibert couldn't pull that off now, let's see what Lomavita can do in Harrisburg.  He is Boras, with it being highly unlikely he's a big leaguer anytime before next year's ASB, he's under team control through his age 29 season.

Seems to be our real prospect nearest the majors, right?

How are his catching skills?
