OK...I had a picture of Billy pop up in my head and wondered why he'd be at a Nats game...

So 17 and 20 are unsigned,  and 19 is off to college
20th is signed

Per Talk Nats:
The Nationals have four unsigned draft picks: 2nd round Ethan Petry, 3rd round Landon Harmon, 5th round Coy James, and 19th round Mason Pike.

A source tells us that Harmon is in West Palm Beach but has not officially signed his contract. Our source still believes that Petry, Harmon, and James will all sign.

That would be awesome. I think that would mean 1-16 would be signed. Also 18 and 20.

would be a disaster if any of them besides Pike fail to sign.

Spotrac just updated. Harmon and Coy signed. They haven't updated Sime Jr. yet but we know he signed. At this point there are three unsigned as far as I can tell. Petry, Bryce Molinaro, and Pike.

Pike of course has the most leverage and I think there is only like 1M left in the pool. Molinaro is a sophomore so it's possible he can just go back until his senior year. Petry would probably eat up the rest of the pool.

Pike was always the insurance in case one of the other High schoolers didn't sign. If they are all on board, then it's unlikely there's money for Pike.

I'm surprised Petry is a tough signing.

Sounds like Molinaro did sign and Spotrac just didn't update it. It's unlikely Pike will sign. Petry is interesting. I guess he could go back for his senior year. Not sure if his value will really go up.

Can't imagine Petry turns down the $2M or so that he'll get to instead go back to college.

Bryce Molinaro (17th rd) returning to school (Penn St) per Talk Nats.
fine. Sign for $10000 next year.

Yea no, he went back to school. It's likely just going to be Molinaro and Pike who don't sign.

does he have 2 more rounds of draft eligibility or just one? If just one, then this was a bonehead move.

Coy James ties the record for largest bonus after the 4th round ($2.5M). Lerners certainly haven't been cheap with the draft.  Slot value was $509K

1st nomination for a nickname. C'mon with other nicknames. Don't pretend to be shy or modest in order to be alluring.

Thinking after the 28th deadline we should compare bonus pool vs spend for all teams, see how the Nats spent.  I could see them holding some back to try to get a player to commit, but all teams have that issue potentially.

I don't think he redshirted so just 1.

Coy "LePond" James is my pick.

Harmon got $2.5M, slot was $1M

I "think" there is $2M left for Petry, which would be about slot.

I thought Sime Jr. signed for 2M, which would give about 1.25 for Petry left.

harmon and James got $2.5 million each, Sime got $2 million, and Willits $8.2 million. That's $15.2 million. 6-10 got $85K, so that leaves about $1.3 million for Petry (maybe a touch less). Slot is a bit less than $2 million, so either he signs for $700K less than slot, or the Nats go into penalties. Nats can exceed the bonus pool by 5%, or about $830K, without forfeiting a 1st round pick.

While I believe we will get Petry signed, what happens if he doesn't?  Do the Nats get a comp pick next year?

Per Talk Nats:

Source: Ethan Petry will be in West Palm Beach today for his physical. Our source said Thursday that Petry would be signed (pending physical). That would make it 18-of-20 players signed, including all Top-16.

They will not sign 19th rounder Mason Pike or 17th rounder Molinaro.

Also noted Petry had shoulder injury last year...only concern w/ physical.
