Maybe we can draft another SS in the first round next year too. Let’s keep it going 3 years in a row.

I'm tired of Boras clients, think DeBartolo is too.  Good pick.  Rizzo didn't have the cajones to do something like this.

Willits will probably end up just like his dad. So another Jacob Young on the roster.

Doyle would have been nice. Sounds like a young Max.

My bad, I thought Holliday was going to be #1 for sure.

Rizzo didn't have the cajones to pick an inferior prospect? lol. Are we seriously at the point where we're cheering on taking a worse player because of Boras?

Is it possible that Rizzo wanted Holiday but the Lerners wanted someone cheapwer and safer? Might that be why they fired Rizzo in favor of DeBartolo?

Boras/FA ain’t gonna factor into the decision making. If Boras ever becomes a problem down the road that means you’ve nailed your pick

You have to be Bill Wirtz level cheap to care about the cost difference between a Boras client and a guy singing for just under slot. The days of top draft picks extorting teams are long gone.

couple of days ago kevrock and I were talking about it when the comments came about how Rizzo overlooked guys' holes in their swing and focused on projectable builds and raw power. [Debartalo mentioned something about a more analytical approach, and Willits seemed like a possible guy. Gonna need to go up thread or in the riz and Davey thread.

looks like the first mention of Willits possibly going at #1 was July 10 by tomterp - https://www.wnff.net/index.php?topic=41556.msg2363220#msg2363220

FWIW, Eli's dad Reggie was reportedly offered to the Nationals by the Angels in 2006 for Alfonso Soriano.

Eh, if you can play shortstop, you can play just about anywhere. Look at the Padres

Prioritizing up the middle players in the draft is a legitimate strategy. If you can play shortstop or centerfield you can probably shift to a corner if needed. There's less positional flexibility if you're drafted as a corner guy from the begining.

Yeah, you don't draft for need in baseball. Willits is talked about as a potential CF down the road.

Thank goodness they didn't do that trade and took Josh Smoker instead with their comp pick.
