Didn't CJ Abrams have a problem with this hitting philosophy too?

Different game. CJ would hit when he had 14 and the dealer showing a 5.

#94 on Keith Law's 2026 Top-100:
Also getting an invite to big league camp per TalkNats.

Let's hope Law is right!

saw he's already reached 20% of his 2025 walk total. Crazy slash line though: .143 / .571 / .143

Baseball- Reference has that slash line but states he has 15 PA, which makes .571 numerically impossible

that's 8 on for 14 in the denominator. Are there PAs that don't count in the OBP formula? Sac flies?

Actually, sacrifice bunts are plate appearances that are not in the obp denominator. Denominator is ABs + BB + hbp + SF. Numerator is H + BB +  HBP. Sac flies are treated differently from sac bunts because sac flies are thought to be attempts at hits while bunt sacrifices are more likely intentionally giving up your plate appearance

He reached on catchers interference in the opener, and they didn’t charge him with an AB. His slash line should read .125/.533/.125.

catchers interference is excluded from the denom, too. He has 1 hit and 7 BBs, so the 8 is right. The denominator for obp is 14: 7 ABs, 7 BBs, 0 HBP, & 0 SF

Ah… I read somewhere (AI probably) that was treated as an error.

of course, I'm pulling this off a google / ai too and didn't pull the original source.  :tomatoes:

I double checked, you’re right. It has its own little weird category. Catcher is charged with an error.

makes some sense. The hitter has no control over whether he can complete the PA, so it's like an error or a fielder's choice in terms of the time on base, but he also has no control over completing the PA. Rather than excluding it from the calculation, I suppose you could say it  should  be treated like an HBP, which counts as both a time on base in the numerator and a plate appearance in the denominator.

I thought this kid was a lost cause, but whatever his AFL teammate said to him is working.  10/8 BB/K now at Harrisburg with a .457 on base.

Needs to have Kevin McGonigle induct him when he's voted into Cooperstown.

Its early, but I gotta think he gets a push to Triple A before Memorial Day. Which would put him in line to make an MLB debut in September

Yea, could come up and play 2B, but I could also see them giving Tena some run there

if we don't trade CJ, King should be up and playing 2nd the minute he passes the year of control date this year.

He's about turn 23, and we're three weeks into the season, so he's a Nat through his age 29 season, unless he keeps doing this and gets traded at arb2 like other top players in this org.

Wallace is actually off to a better start  than King and has been playing 2nd.

By OPS yes, but King has a remarkable 1.3 BB/K and his P/PA has shot up from last year to 4.48.  Wallace's component stats haven't jumped like King's. It's like this guy found the road to Damascus last year in the AFL, and forgot all the garbage the old Nats coaches taught him, and saw the light on patience and pitch selection.
