Saw him tonight for Harrisburg in Richmond.

I'd drop the grade at the top of this thread to a 40 FV at best.  The 3B defense is there (solid MLB to possible plus), but I can't see him hitting major league pitching.

There's nothing especially wrong with his swing, his approach, or anything.  He's just not good enough.  And he's not young for level or from any weird background (he played in the SEC), so there's nothing that explains it other than he's just not a good enough hitter.  He swings through far too much stuff in AA to have a chance against MLB pitching unless he gets significantly better.

Those hitting numbers are gross. The bat potential is there but it’s about time to show results.

Time to move him off third. Jose Tena is passable defensively and is hitting well, and is only like six months older than Cayden Wallace.

I look at Cayden Wallace best case as a utility infielder who is short side of a platoon with Luis Garcia. But if he doesn’t start hitting, no reason to elevate him when right handed backup infielders are not tough to find and at this point Amed Rosario is someone I want to be around past this season.

Wallace appears to be angry he fell out of the top-30. Via nationals player development:
Quote
ayden Wallace launched his second grand slam as a part of a 4-hit effort in Harrisburg's 11-9 win on Saturday. His last 5 games:

⚾️.500 AVG (11-for-22)
⚾️.773 SLG (3 2B, HR)
⚾️4 RBI
⚾️SB
⚾️3 R

Hit a grand slam yesterday.

Not a big prospect, still maybe most disappointing story of this minor league season. Strong finish would be huge to get him back in picture as infield depth

Curse of Nats Coaching: goes from .777 OPS in Royals AA to .616 here.  He needs to Nathaniel Lowe himself out of this org.

Red hot in August, slashing .351/.407/.568. Hot streak started a couple weeks too late to get him up to Rochester, but I think he's worth having around (again) next Spring.  Start him in Rochester.

he's rule 5 eligible this December. I don’t think he's added to the roster.

I don't think anyone is picking him up on Rule V. I feel like his best case scenario is a decent back up utility player who in a pinch could be shot side of a platoon.

I don't see a need to protect him unless there are some unexpected moved leaving the 40 man really slim.

There's a case to be made that he could be an ok backup with better coaching than he's getting in this org.  But yeah, overall it's hard to see a sensible team giving him one of their 13 position roster spots for a whole season.

On August 10th, Cayden Wallace was hitting .191/.270/.303, good for a 72 wRC+. He was 4-for-50 over his last 16 games.

In 12 games since, Wallace is hitting .500/.520/.833, hauling his season-long wRC+ back to 98. He has three homers in 12 games after hitting 6 in his last 92.

Playing like he's auditioning for a vampire movie this year because he's become quite undead.

50 PAs - .357 / .440 / .714, 3 HR, 12 BB%, 16 K%, 2 SBs, 192 wRC+.  some BABIP luck  (.375); playing  mostly 3B. As good as King has been, Wallace has been better.

The Rochester infield is busy right now, but he is nearing the point it may be time to swap him in for a couple guys right in Rochester who aren't contending for 40 man space. Time to challenge him a level up.

Yes. I get the attachment to Lipscomb, who is an OK fringe guy who can play all over the infield. There's value in that. I don't think Levi Jordan serves a purpose.

It looks like there's 3 corner infielders on the Rochester roster (Abi, Yoyo, and Chappy), with now Glasser and Lipscomb the primary MIs. Crews,  franklin, Hassell, and Pinckney split the OF time. Jordan is the last guy position guy, and there's 3 catchers, including Tres.

The only reason Wallace and King are down, I think, is playing time considerations. At this point, I would not let Lipscomb's playing time block Wallace or King. If Glasser needs a demotion, then that's OK, too.
