The Nationals just announced that they traded Hunter Harvey to the Kansas City Royals in exchance for third baseman Cayden Wallace and competitive balance draft pick (№39 overall) from the Kansas City Royals.

Man that seems like a hell of a deal. Wallace is the Royals second ranked prospect.

Biggest news in DC tonight clearly.  I’m shocked at how good of a deal this is for the Nats.

I guess Harvey didn't kill his trade value with his June

Pretty impressive. How close is a Wallace to the big leagues?  How about Wallace at 3B, House at SS and a CJ at 2B.

Hitting .280 in AA. I took a quick look, and he is on the 7-IL.

I don’t see House at SS.  I’d say ideally Wallace is the 3B at some point next year with House at 1B.

I think House is supposed to be very good defensively at 3B. How about Wallace?

Wallace could rank as high as 4th on our top prospects, and the Competitive Balance pick should net another top-15 prospect.  Excellent return.  If we get similar for Finnegan, I’m ecstatic.

Signing Candelario cheap and flipping him for Herz and now flipping a waiver claim reliever in Harvey for this return is excellent work by Rizzo.  Finnegan and Winker will be similar cases of bargain bin shopping and bolstering the farm system in a significant way.

So apparently because they also got the draft pick along with Cayden Wallace, they'll have the 10th, 39th (Hunter pick) and 44th. I like the trade although Wallace isn't in the top 100 MLB prospects.

I’d have been thrilled with just Wallace or just the 39th overall pick.  Wallace doesn’t seem to have star upside, but he definitely seems at minimum an upgrade over Lipscomb and is at least a possible 3B of the future.

Meh, the Royals system is stripper because of all the young players they're playing.

Wallace doesnt hit for enough power to stick at third, and isnt nimble enough to play the middle infield.

House is a future gold glove winner at third. Moving him would be dumb.

“He projects as more of a gap-to-gap hitter than a home run hitter, but as he adds strength, he might tap into that above-average raw power.“

He’s not a slap hitter.

Thats pretty much what he is. He does not have the power to stay at a corner infield spot.

If both Wallace and House have bats that you have to play, then that’s not out of the question.  House is rated a 50 glove and 60 arm.  Wallace is a 55 field and 65 arm.  He projects as the better 3B defensively.

Above average raw power can play, especially if he pulls the ball with an optimal launch angle.

Wallace doesnt have a bat you "have to play." Gap to gap is not a bat you have to play.

House is Matt Chapman. Wallace is Lipscomb with a nice arm.

Maybe so, we’ll have to see how Wallace’s bat develops.  However, House hasn’t shown or is projected to be a defensive 3B near the level of Matt Chapman. Maybe he ends up being near that level, but his bat is what will carry him right now.

So if he makes a huge swing adjustment in an organization that sucks at developing hitters, he might have above average power at a position that requires power.

He has a solid approach at the plate.  If he’s a 15 HR guy with a solid approach and decent OBP with some doubles to boost the slug and above average defense, then he’s a solid starting 3B.
