Follow the Prospects: Daison Acosta, RHP
« Topic Start: July 08, 2024, 10:14:33 AM »
Daison Maquier Acosta
Born 8/24/1998 in Paraiso, Dominican Republic
Acquired from the New York Mets in the Minor League phase of the 2023 Rule 5 Draft

Another relief pitcher who has pitched well in AA so far this season. 51 strikeouts in 33 innings. Made Fangraphs' Nationals' top prospects list at 32.

Quote
Acosta last made a prospect list in 2017 when he was a projectable GCL starter in the Mets system. He was one of Washington’s minor league Rule 5 picks during the offseason and is having a strong 2024 at Harrisburg. Acosta will flash a plus slider and split. His command limits their consistency and will likely relegate him to an up/down role, but for a minor league phase Rule 5 selection, that’s pretty good.

Pretty decent numbers. Anyone seen him?

He closed out Sunday for Harrisburg in Bowie.  Above-average AA reliever but nothing crazy.  Pretty standard reliever repertoire, movement looked a tick above average.  No gun readings on the board there, but fastball looked to be 93-94ish.  Very skinny build and looks like pure single-inning.  I'd put a 40 grade on him and say he's useful org depth.
