The link probably doesn't work, but you can find the story by navigating to the Banner's sports site and selecting the Nationals tab.

Golden wrote a piece about how Wood is gaining respect and overcoming his second half of 2025. Physically, Golden says that Wood was dealing with nagging quad and knee injuries. He worked on some physical adjustments over the winter trying to calm down his upper body and react to pitches more by moving his lower half.

That said, the most important change per Wood was in his head. In the second half, he pressed and sped the game up.
Quote
When Wood is at his best, he trusts his hands and his eyes. If he doesn’t like a pitch, he won’t swing. If a pitch is in his zone, he’s aggressive. And he knows he won’t get beat by any pitch.
...
In the second half, he didn’t maintain that demeanor. He chased hits. Griffin sensed Wood was trying to force his way out of slumps.

He trusted his instincts less and uncharacteristically swung at pitches out of the zone. He’d get antsy and force contact on pitches he couldn’t hit hard. Other times, Wood would be too selective and not swing at all.

Wood’s first-half whiff and strikeout rates were 30.2% and 27.6%, respectively. In the second half, those figures jumped to 36.8% and 39%.

Overthinking, tweaking his approach.

Golden says the slow start this year was a chance to throw him off and lead him to tweak his approach, but Wood and the coaches thought from the BP thought he was coming out of it in the batting practices he took in Philly. Of course, right after that, he had the week he mashed and won player of the week.

It's the only play. Boras doesn't negotiate in good faith. Enjoy every home run knowing that it adds to the haul we'll get in return.

We have him for what? The rest of this year and then 4 more years? Making what he’s making that probably makes him top 5 in terms of trade value. Only guy I can think of who would definitely be above him is Skenes. No reason to trade him yet. 3 years of wood would already be farm system gutting for the acquiring team. The jump from 3 to 4 years necessitates the type of return a team couldn’t feasibly do

Yeah, if we’re trading wood it’s for griffin and skenes.

You're not getting either one of those, let alone both.

Yeah, i'm exaggerating a bit.

I asked Gemini for ideas, and it started by pointing out the lunacy of trading a guy like Wood in April, with 4+ years of team control.

Here are the potential deals it provided:
- Wood to Seattle for George Kirby
- Wood to Baltimore for Jackson Holliday and Cade Povich
- Wood & Lile to Detroit for Skubal (provided the Nats could extend Skubal

Summary:
Quote
If I’m forced to pull the trigger, I go with Option 1 (Seattle). George Kirby’s health and consistency are the safest "comparable value" for Wood’s offensive upside. It’s a clean "strength-for-strength" swap that solves our biggest organizational hole.

That said, my office door is locked and I’m "accidentally" ignoring the owner’s calls for the next hour.

Kirby has less team control than Wood does. I think its laughable that we would extend Skubal.

Toboni's inclination will be to stock the system with younger talent. That means guys who will make their debut 2-4 years from now. So like the Pirates with Seth Hernandez and Edward Florentino

Agree. The Lerners don’t trade until the player becomes arb eligible.

Easily get Griffin for Wood.   Although I wouldn’t want that

Not a chance. Griffin will easily surpass Wood's value in another year or so. Wood is hot right now. He will cool off again and the 30+ K rate is going to catch up to him.

Wood has 60 K’s and we aren’t quite at  25 % of the season. He has a great shot at Mark Reynolds record.

Via Nationals Communications. Current ranks:

OBP: 1st, .413
BB: 1st, 46
R: 1st, 49
OPS: 2nd, .964
HR: T2nd. 15
XBH: 3rd, 29

At this point it might be fair to say that he's better than Soto?

I think Soto is a better hitter, but Wood is a better ballplayer. All around.
