Outside the box: Trade Garcia, and move either Abrams or Tena. Start Lipscomb at third.
Good idea. Sell high on Luis.

My only problem is I don't known if Tena's defense gets fixed by moving to shortstop or second.

But I do like that Tena can hit lefties.

I don't think you develop a guy like Garcia and then trade him when he's ready. I don't want to see Lipscomb again. He stinks.

Even with the increased hitting this year Garcia is about 2 WAR. If he reverts back to prior years he is replacement level. Not convinced he will keep it up. Why not get some pitching for him?

Garcia's only got 3 years left of team control and will be interesting to see what kind of pay bump he gets next year.  I'm also not sure his trade value is that high.   But yeah, would rather keep him, especially with Tena's unproven glove.

Garcia is right now a platoon bat with so-so defensive skills. Not sure what value he has.

Garcia’s defensive stats improved a little this year but still are not good.

2.7 fWAR with positive defense. 5th in fWAR among 17 qualified 2nd basemen. He's had a  pretty good year. How you value him is whether you think it sticks.

There is no pitcher of quality coming back for Garcia.  At best you get a middle reliever who Rizzo can try to flip at the deadline

If I'm reading it correctly, Luis is -6 DRS this year and 4 OAA.  So not great.  But better than before.
Depends on the return of course like any trade.

He is probably our best fielding middle infielder

Rizzo on the Junkies today.  No surprise, but core of Wood, Young, Crews, Abrams, Garica, and Ruiz, leaving 3B, 1B, and DH open, but sounds like House will get an opportunity next year.

If I had $1 for every time he said "Uh" I think I could burn whatever other money I have and live comfortably for the rest of my days...

Such a hard listen...

Was thinking the exact same thing.  Takes him forever to get a thought out.

Rizzo talks to Bill Ladson, reiterates a lot of what he said to the Junkies.

He seems to have a thing for Jake Bennett, who's coming off TJ, will be 24 next season, and still hasn't pitched above Wilmington.  I'd think the high minors pitchers, especially Brad Lord, have earned a greater focus.

can garcia play 3rd?

kind of liking the idea of a garcia-nunez-tena 3B, SS, 2B infield.  That could work until king/house are ready.  Ultimately, Garcia's best home would be batting against all righties by spelling guys at corner OF and every infield position.

let's not write off CJ too fast. I wonder if this lineup could start both Nunez and Young given their lack of power. I realize that's not the key here for your lineup.

Sign Soto and trade Abrams, Parker, and morales for vlad jr.  Gets rid of cj, and solves power and defense

Nunez just hasn't shown enough with the bat at any point for me to hope he gives Nats anything next season

It would be great if Trey Lipscomb started hitting some but

Max says he wants to pitch next year. The Nats would be crazy not to pursue.

I think Scherzer is probably done, but if he can be had for under $10 million, do it. Never know when you get a late career last gasp and it probably would be good for this clubhouse to have another true adult in there.

No freaking way to Scherzer. Dude doesnt stay healthy. He just wants to collect money on his performance over half a decade ago.

Spend the money on someone who can give you quality innings and top of the rotation performance.

Sign Scherzer for a one day deal and put him in the illustrious ring of honor. Contingent on him signing retirement papers of course.

Max 2024 WAR: 0.4

Nationals Starters:
Irvin: 2.3
Parker: 0.4
Williams: 2.1
Gray: -0.6
Herz: 0.6
Corbin: -0.7
Gore: 0.4

Signing Max for a $10-15 million one year deal for him to mentor the young guys, and possibly flipping him at the deadline if he's open to it, seems like a decent move.
