Most teams have a routine after a hit now. The Orioles do some kind of water spout thing.

It's no different to me than the wigs, home run dances, car driving and other antics that we've seen through the years. If it means they are having fun playing then i'm happy to see it.  Just no more chocolate sauce, that was awful.

Those were generally limited to the dugout except for the baby shark motions. Doing a little hula dance every time you reach base hit looks pathetic.

There’s also the whole pitching thing that looms beneath it, as well as return to the bench clearing when taunts go too far. What’s being done seems like it could quite easily escalate into the taunting realm, so it’s not just a matter of people being old and not liking fun / Brian McCann game police mode.

Whether or not it's fun is immaterial - it just looks unprofessional, and perceptions count. Given our 2024 Nationals track record of fielding errors, baserunning blunders and now back-to back shut-outs, you would expect that they would want to give the impression that they are serious, and professional, about the task in hand. It will really come back to bite if other teams start regarding us as 'those jokers who dance on the bases' - then we start at a disadvantage before a ball has even been pitched.

You’re right but every single team does it now. It’s like putting on the sliding mitts.

Why are Senzel and Robles playing?
because he's going for the worst possible offense.

(and because Lipscomb was sent down, although that doesn't explain Robles)

fangraphs has Vargas at second, hitting 5th, and Gallo hitting 4th.

Are Young and Garcia striking out of sympathy for Trey, as opposed Gallo, who is simply striking out?

Even if they pull off a win, no interest in watching tonight.  A mostly ~30 year old lineup of players who won't be here in 2-3 years is simply pointless and unexciting.

García is out of the line-up, replaced by Vargas.

4 of 9 players with averages below .200, and three others are under .250.

Victor hitting .105, K rate is up, hard hit rate is way down.  Watch the Nats give him a contract next year.

Talknats noting that some Nats' pitchers could out-hit most of our current lineup:

Even worse, Eric Thames put up better numbers than Gallo and Meneses.

2012 Stras was pretty solid with the bat.

Worst Offensive Performance Tally:

April 5, 2024: 2 hits, 5 walks, 7 Ks, no runs
May 2, 2024: 4 hits, 3 walks, 12 Ks, no runs
May 14, 2024: 4 hits, 3 walks, 8 Ks, no runs
May 15, 2024: 3 hits, 5 walks, 10 Ks, no runs
May 21, 2024: 3 hits, 3 walks, 10 Ks, no runs

I believe today's game is officially the worst.

Plenty more on the way.  Mini Me paid some guys, so Davey will play them.  Waiting for someone to prove me wrong.

Worst team offense since the first Bush administration. One bad game away from being the worst since Ford.

In fairness, OPS is down all over MLB. I'd be much more interested in a sort of something weighted by offensive environment relative to the league, like OPS+ or wRC+. By wRC+, this team is about 8% below MLB average; 25th best. For comparison, that 1992 team was 6% below average at 94 wRC+, 18th out of 26 teams. the 1991 team was 88 wRC+ and 22nd out of 26 teams.

Meh, OPS is a pretty poor metric.

https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&month=0&ind=1&startdate=&enddate=&season1=1950&season=2024&team=24%2Cts&sortcol=18&sortdir=asc&pagenum=1&pageitems=30

Currently at a 92 wRC+, which ties with last year, and better than 2005-2011 (except for 2009).

This team seems more feast or famine than anything else. Which is odd for a team that came in with the intention to play small ball.
