Lipscomb's recall I think is intended as purely a defensive upgrade. While the arm has been a concern here, all defensive metrics have him as a positive defender (DRS, UZR, OAA). His bat is not good, but neither was Senzel's since 5/1.
Pitchers will like this move. It also probably lets Vargas slip back into his bench utility role rather than platoon starter with Garcia and Senzel. Vargas has tailed the more he's been used, and coming off the bench let's him be slotted in in better situations.
