There's got to be some sort of loyalty factor with Corbin.  Maybe it's just me -- I don't feel sentimental.

We haven’t had 5 viable healthy alternatives at any given time.  He’s someone that, despite not being good, gives you 6 innings and doesn’t miss a start.

I think it is a chance to lower the wear on Parker and Herz to have Corbin pitch tonight. They could even skip Herz's next turn by throwing Parker Tuesday and bringing back Corbin on 4 days rest Wednesday. That lets them keep a 9th reliever up. Really strikes me as managing workload. Same thing for pitching Irvin Sunday.

I really hope you are wrong ..that would put Corbin back on track for 8/3...

Clearly Corbin's value is to keep stress and innings overload off the rest of the staff.  With Gray, Cavalli, and Williams being done for the year, somebody has to pick up the innings slack.

I am losing patience with Gore. He has talent, but he needs to use it.

Meanwhile, when can Herz return? When do they need that 5th starter?

Probably using tomorrow's off day to keep four starters and nine in the pen.  Herz is eligible to come back Tuesday and there's also Brad Lord in AAA who could at least do a spot start.

Zuck says that the Nats will be calling up a starter for Tuesday with Parker set to go on Wednesday and Corbin on Thursday. I imagine Herz gets the call.

surprised. I suspect either Salazar or maybe Ferrer gets sent down to AAA. I'm not sure Ferrer is ready, but they seem reluctant to use Salazar.

My thoughts on Cavalli appearing after mid Sept will at most be  two very abbreviated appearances.

Still crazy that he's going to miss almost two full seasons due to TJS. I remember it was said there was a silver lining he got hurt in spring training since it meant he would be back for most of this season.

could slot in Herz, I think. Hasn't pitched since the ASB. Lord is scheduled in Rochester. Not scratched yet.

Yeah, i'd guess Herz. Rutledge pitched 3 days ago. I doubt they want to add Lord to the 40-man.

The clock has struck midnight for Parker. I'm afraid he's turning into a pumpkin.

made 26 starts and threw 124 innings last year. That's less than 5 innings per start. This year, he's made 19 starts (1 at AAA) and thrown 99.1 innings. I think it is important to try to get him to 150-160 innings throwing every 5th day. 10 or so more starts. That's more wear, and he's going to have his share of rough ones, but it is important in terms of development. As Slate says, that's what Irvin did in 2023 (29 starts, 143.1 innings). of course, Irvin seemed to improve in the 2d half, so we can hope this is just a rough 2 or 3 start stretch for PArker.

No reason not to stretch him. We aren't competing. We are developing.
