Officially eliminated from the division race with 22 games to go.

Magic number for Wild Card elimination is 8.

so you are saying there is still a chance?

Fangraphs says it's less than 1 in a 1000, so yes.

Elimination magic number down to 4, and just 2 losses away from clinching losing season in a row #5, which in any other decent-sized market would be seen as a massive failure and would get everyone fired.  But there's no such thing as accountability in DC.

But there's a big opportunity this weekend in the Land of Lower Expectations with the Marlins coming into town for 4 games.  This series could be what helps the team surpass last year's 71 win total.

Marlins really should be renamed to some non-apex species.  Feeder Fish?  Or some terrestrial mammal that is at the bottom of the food chain, never sees daylight in its native habitat and is rarely seen by humans.

Given the neighborhood they could just be the Sidewalk Roosters.  Seen by humans but brushed aside as being a trivial inconvenience and prone to self-destructive actions.

Basura Blanco?

To be fair, that's more a description of many of their players than the fans.  But the Spanglish with bad Spanish grammar and American cultural reference certainly works.

Elimination magic number is actually 2 because the Mets and Braves still have 3 against each other, which means the #6 WC team has clinched an 81 win season.

So if the Mets win today, D-backs win today, and Nats lose today, the elimination becomes official.

My money is on OfftheBat being the closest to the final record (he predicted 70-92)

18 games left, if you assume 3 of 14 from the Marlins, 6 out of 14 against the rest that's 73, but think I agree with you

Diamondbacks and Mets have won, so a loss tonight officially eliminates the Nats and also clinches a non-winning season

That was assured before the first pitch of the first game of the season...

Schedule looks hard on paper other than Marlins. However a good chance that KC will have clinched a wild card before they arrive. And that the Phillies will be starting Tajuan Walker and maybe a Triple A pitcher.

from the GDT, adding the win totals to 65:

With 17 left, the Nats need to go:
0-17 to tie 2021
4-13 to tie 2010 (69 wins)
6-11 to tie 2006 & 2023 (71 wins)
8-9 to tie 2007 (73 wins)
15-2 to tie 2011 win total with 1 extra loss (80 wins)
16-1 to tie 2005 (81 wins)
17-0 to tie 2018 (82 wins)

Cubs (4)
KC (3)
Phillies (3)

The more teams the Nats play that have something to play for the better. A chance to be spoiler and more interest in the game.

On one hand, not going to get close to here.

On the other, we still may finish better than last year and I really liked the deadline approach.

Mixed feelings on missing this one.
