Happens all the time in baseball.  Prospect can’t hit when he gets to the higher levels or MLB.  It’s why it’s crazy to think all our current prospects will be good major leaguers. Just doesn’t work that way.

He had a good track record through 2019 in the minors all the way up to AAA. He was an honest top 20 guy

I think the failure of all 3 of Garcia, Kieboom  and Robles had a huge chunk of why the Nats had the big fall to the bottom

Yeah, he had a .902 OPS in AAA across nearly 500 PAs at just the age of 21. Just completely fell apart after reaching the majors.

Edit: On that note, last year was the first time García didn't dominate AAA. Makes you wonder what's happening to cause all these promising hitting prospects who dominate every level of the minors but then turn into pumpkins the moment they reach the majors.

I kind of feel bad for him that he's still stuck in this organization. Maybe a change of scenery, including a new hitting coach who sees something in him that can be fixed, could lead to success for him. But the ash heap of baseball history is littered with former cant-miss prospects. I'm reminded of this every time I look at a list of former #1 draft picks or all the old "Future Stars" baseball cards.

I believe it’s the quality of secondary pitches in the majors.

no. Alu is more likely to get a call up because  he's on the 40 man roster. They are not going to call Kieboom up unless there are no alternatives on the roster and they don't want to start Lipscomb's service time clock.

Alu is the next Adrian Sanchez, except he plays corner OF and not SS. With Nunez, there's no need for Alu to play SS.

His lack of development is also on the org.  Outside of elite talents like Juan Soto, this org has no ability to develop patient hitters.  Elijah Green needs to ask for a trade if he wants to go anywhere in MLB.

Eh, Alu could just as easily be put on waivers. He doesnt play the OF well enough to garner a roster spot once Garrett is healthy.

Sure, and Adrian Sanchez was waived on and off the roster after his options ran out. It's just I think he's the only infielder on the 40 man roster in the minors, so he'd be called up first if Senzel or Garcia were to go down. Certainly before C Kieboom.

Oh, another point - the Nats will not need to create a 40 man roster slot for Garrett when he's active unless they 60 day IL him at the start of the year and replace him. I don't think that is happening.

Checking in on Carter Kieboom: .302 BA / .805 OPS (.456 OBP) in 43 ABs so far. No power though, just two doubles, nothing more than that. 13 BBs / 16Ks.
