What makes Rochester tough to hit in?  Comparing his home/away stats is nuts.

Is that just his Rochester numbers or is that AA? HE did have problems hitting in Harrisburg, but he's not the only one. Wood showed that too last year.

It's getting harder to keep taking my crazy pills and supporting this organization.  Future centerpiece Crews homering in Rochester, short-timer Gallo called up, big league lineup musters 1 run against some soft-tossing jabroni for Colorado.

Thank you Sir, may I have another....

He's picked it up in August: .879 OPS. I can think they want to give him a little more run, maybe finish the year in AAA, then call him up for a cup of coffee after that. Edit - I see AAA runs through 9/22 rather than 8/31. I can see letting him play out August, but later than that would be, as Slate says below, asinine For comparison, House's OPS over that stretch is .708, and for all of House's power displays, his ISO is .040 lower. Not complaining because House is still just turned 21 in June, but more saying the roster management approach isn't ridiculous.

I can not state how utterly asinine this approach is. We're essentially planning for him to adjust to MLB pitching next season.

He should have been up a month ago. There is nothing he is learning in Triple A that he won't have to re-learn in the majors.

Well, there is reliance on the automatic strike zone.

actually, I just saw that Rochester's schedule runs to 9/22. I agree it would be asinine to have him finish the year in AAA. He should have been up yesterday.  Failing that, the outside date for adding him should be 9/1 when rosters expand to at least 14 position players. He really should have a month in MLB this year. 100 PAs should be the target.

I expect Crews comes up with expanded rosters. As long as he gets to play every day in September, I'm not too worried. He wasn't hitting well enough to force his way to the majors until the past few weeks, and I don't think a month of AAA ball versus MLB ball is going to change his entire career trajectory. I'm personally not overthinking this.

28th in Defensive Runs Saved, most caught stealings per game in the league - nearly twice the next team, baserunning blunders, significant increase in runs against per game since July 1, significant decrease in stolen base success rate, not adjusting to other teams scouting the pitchers and baserunners...and all the coaches are coming back.

It's no much support anymore as it is watching a car wreck that you can't turn your head away from.

I still can’t believe they didn’t have him up yesterday. Not even from a baseball perspective but from a fan/business perspective. I was one of 16k in the ballpark last night - it was completely dead. Perfect opportunity for actual Nats fans to see a piece of the future debut.

Instead, he’ll be getting called-up with either the Yankees, Cubs, or Braves in town. His first taste of Nats Park will be with the other opponents fans showing up in larger numbers than his home fan base.

At least with Wood, in April and May, they talked about wanting to see him vs lefties in the minors. What is it that Crews is gaining in the minors now? Even if it is, "we want him to have sustained success in AAA" I'd feel they would help set some expectations for the fans.

The arguement for delaying Crews has been potentially getting a comp pick for winning rookie of the year.

Jackson Merrill is the front runner for RoY this year, with a .813 OPS and good CF defense.

Wood is hitting .316/.407/.531 in his last month. If we had called him up at the end of April, would he be the front runner for RoY?

Right or wrong, Merrill probably gets a boost for team record.

If James Wood had hit like that since April, he probably would be ahead. But the sample size right now is still low enough we don't know a hot streak before teams adjust or if Rizzo found a fourth elite caliber hitter in a decade to go along with Harper, Soto, Rendon.

and he may not be the best NL rookie pitcher. Both Yamamoto and Iminaga have cases. Iminaga on quantity, Yamamoto on advanced stats.

Of course this all assumes Wood would have produced earlier in the season in MLB.  Always a big IF.

Looking at how Wyatt Langford is doing maybe the Nats knew what they were doing with Wood and maybe Crews too.
