Let's see how Wood's rehab goes over the next week. This past week, it looks like every other day for less than a full game. If he finishes the week playing 2 or 3 consecutive, full games, I suspect he's called up 7/1 for the Mets series.

I don't think Crews will be up if Wood can't go.

Team is kind of desperate for a corner OF who can actually field.  Thomas is no great shakes, either, but moving Winker to DH and Wood to left strengthens 2 holes - DH offense and LF defense.

They are being extraordinarily cautious for a guy who didnt dben limp off the field.

At this point, both are wasting time in Triple A. Wood can DH. Tell him to jog to first.

Crews is leading off today and is 0-2. Gray got bombed. 6 hits 7 runs 7 earned in 3 innings. So much for his anticipated return and Corbin sucking.

Crews went 2-for-5, with 2 runs scored. Hitting .286 with .783 OPS. He keeps improving -- will be ready some time in August.

At this point, Crews is just wasting time. There is nothing he will learn in Triple A that will prepare him for MLB. That was already done in Harrisburg.

He's putting up the same #'s in AAA that he did in AA.  As JCA-Crystal City has said, an Aug 20 callup seems likely both in terms of giving him two months at AAA, and ensuring he can't qualify for RoY.

Even if Wood and Crews need a season or so to adjust to MLB, I can't do another season of has beens and never weres at key offensive positions.

I think we're in violent agreement. We're prepping for next season. Both Wood and Crews need to see MLB pitching. Call them up right now.

So Wood will face two lefties in his first games. Will be interesting.

I've not seen anything reliable/official that says he'll be starting...just that he'll be called up.

Maybe someone in the organization is smart enough to have noticed the matchups too.

Nevermind...

Maybe he becomes just another pine-rider like Nunez...the Nats are famous for those moves.

BTW...has a corresponding move been announced?

DH seems to be Wood's natural position...

my guess is they rotate guys through DH, but if anyone's playing time suffers, it'll be Call.

sure is making it tough. Does it help that he's 30? Young may get time off, too.

Wood's bomb on Saturday did briefly rouse the sparse crowd from its opium den torpor.

James Wood is way too young for me to decide he can't be a solid glove. Let Alex Call DH for now even if he today is probably better out there than Alex Call.

This is silly.  It's going to be Wood in left, Young in center, and Crews in right.  One week of Alex Call getting hot is not going to change the direction of the program.

Been a lot longer than one week.   Call is the guy that gets other guy’s good ABs.  He sees a ton of pitches.  He’s very valuable

He'll be 30 in September.  This is Meneses from a couple years back.  It's fun, but he got nearly 400 ABs last year and hit .200.

Meneses never had this kind of walk rate or BB/K.  Both have BABIP swings, Meneses in '22 and Call now, but Meneses never had a 12% BB rate or 16% K rate like Call has now.  Call had a beyond miserable .230 BABIP last year, and is at a crazy .510 now, but he's a solid 4th OFer with his BB/K numbers, regardless of the remarkable BABIP ups and downs.

It's 20 games.  He didn't turn into something he's not at age 29.  He doesn't strike out much, walks a fair amount, and generally doesn't do much with contact when it's against major league pitching. He's useful because Thomas is gone, but let's not get too excited here.
