They are about to have a massive and rich market to themselves. Maybe they're planning on going dodgers with their payroll
The hitters don’t want to sign there anymore.

I don;t understand it from the SF side.  They are not a contender and no path forward.

Farhan, the GM, is under a lot of pressure after this year's disappointing season.  Rumors flying around that Kim Ng will replace him.  Giants are just a little more performance oriented than the Nats and most around here don't care that they won 100+ in '21.    If he pulled some Rizzo-speak about how lucky everyone is that the team won 3 WS last decade and 107 games three years ago he'd be out the door immediately.

Besides Chapman, the two best hitters are both young and cheap, so they have some payroll flexibility.  Still, this thing is very likely to disappoint for the 2nd half of the contract.

It hurt them they didn't get much from Blake Snell and Robbie Ray this year. I bet before the season they would win over 83 but that's not happening. It doesn't help they in the same division as the Dodgers, Padres and Dbacks.

They also didn't get much from Jung Hoo Lee, and they're paying him a lot for 5 more years.

Yea, but you can argue that not getting much out of SNell is Snell's fault, where as Lee got hurt playing

Yeah.  It's a weird mixed bag for that team, and their minor league system is producing really unevenly too.

Snell and Jordan Montgomery remain an issue for Boras because the clearly had issues due to holding out most of spring training.

Maybe thats why they're willing to buy? Getting some production from young players, plus bringing back Chapman and Lee.

Boras is already off to a much better offseason that last.  Rather than waiting until last minute and missing Spring Training, he did something unusual given his history by having Snell sign early, and got him a solid contract.

Then, this thing with "accepting bids" set up an artificial deadline that Soto's suitors seem to have totally fallen for.  He's also ensured the whisper numbers of $600M+ get circulated through the press. He's successfully launched a bidding war and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets $700M and opt outs.

He is the one of the few people who ever got the old man to open his wallet, we'll see if he can convince Mini Me to do the same.

Maintaining some blind optimism that whatever deal soto signs, he’ll opt out in 3-4 years when wood, crews, king, house, lomavita/bazzell, Sykora, and susana are all up with at least a year or two of experience

By then, we won't want him. He'll be a DH who wants a billion

Might be time for Boras to retire.

Posey basically stepped out of the Burnes bidding war.  Boras still got what he wanted.  Apparently, California taxes played a role in Burnes' decision.
