I don't know about that. Judge will be 33 early next season. Plenty of time for Soto to overtake him as Judge heads down the wrong side of 30.
No fans will always love Judge best.  Home grown dude.

If the Yanks win the WS, you guys think that'd increase the probability that Soto signs with them this Winter? On the other hand, what about if they lose the WS?

I would be curious what Welch and some of our NYC members and NYY followers think.

I think they are going to want to play Dominguez in CF next year and Judge in a corner. Soto could play in the easier corner, but they also need a 1st baseman and maybe a 2d/3d baseman (wherever Chisholm isn't). Maybe Soto goes to 1st, or maybe they go for Santander, Walker, and Bregman and skip Soto.

Soto belongs at 1B...wearing a curly-W, of course. He's not fast enough to play the OF, and his arm was never great. My wish is that he sign with the Yankees if not with the Nats. Mostly because I hate the Mets and Steve Cohen and Met fans. Upper Manhattan, where I live, and the Bronx, so nearby, have many Dominicans. My congressional district is nick-named "Little DR", for instance. He will be welcomed.

Will he choose the team that offers the most money? Who knows?

what do Yankees fans think the Yankees will do? Is he just a hired gun for a season to get the World Series win but not a "real" Yankee, or is he thought of as a piece they must keep to pair with Judge as the next pair of huge bats (M&M tradition).

If you have Judge and Soto, how much 1B do you need? They made the WS with Rizzo and Ben Rice.

Yankee fans want Soto to stay in The Bronx. Badly. They think that the Yankees need him, and they hate anything about the Mets.

I'm trying to think of a spot for Soto. Maybe I'm thinking of Lane Thomas and his arm, or of Dylan Crews and his all-around fielding excellence. Soto missed a drive last night, one that he could not reach by about six inches, and another that was just over his head and against the wall. He's not getting faster and his arm has never been that great. I think he'd make a decent 1B.

Rizzo is 34 and only played 92 games this season. His hitting has gone down each season since 2019. Did hit 32 homers in 2022, but his average is stuck around .225, and OPS was .706 in '23 and about .650 this year. He makes $17 million a year through next season, but has a $6 million team buyout clause.

Soto plays wherever he wants.

Rizzo's career is over. The Yankees have holes at two OF positions, 2B, and 1B. Dominguez can man CF with Grisham as the 4th OFer and backup. Still need an OFer, and the right side of the infield.

I think the big question is how much does Soto want to win in the next five years? Because the Yankees aren't going to get better. Their farm system is meh, and they have a ton of money locked up.

Cole is 34 and still owed 36 million AAV for four years
Judge will be 33 next year - 40 million for 7 tears
Stanton still has three years left
Rodon sucks and still has 4 years left

The decline is coming for these guys. Are the Yankees going to continually climb into the 2nd and 3rd tiers of the luxury tax? You add Soto to that and its almost 180 million wrapped up in 5 players. One of those guys is a ~100 game a year DH. Rodon is already becoming Corbin. How much longer do Judge and Cole have before they decline?

If Soto has equal offers from the Dodgers, Giants, Phillies, Mets, and Yankees .... why would he take the Yankees over the other teams?

If the Phillies get him with Harper, Turner, and Schwarber, I am going to need some reminders that I am supposed to hate them

I will gladly remind you...for as long as Harper is there.  Trea and Schwarby are good in my book...

Of course:

There are three teams that can realistically afford him. As a fan of one of the other 27, who cares which one he chooses

There are some other teams that can afford him. Such as the Nats.

Somehow I don’t see a team with a $100M payroll signing a $50M a year contract

No they won’t. But they can afford as can many teams. He’s probably only interested in contenders.

Time will tell...

Interesting take by Slate; if he does indeed get equal offers from these other teams, I don't see why he'd choose the Yanks

Philly has entered the chat:
Quote
MLB Deadline News

The #Phillies are expected to “strongly pursue” Juan Soto in free-agency this winter, per @BNightengale

Maybe Philly signs Scherzer, trades for Rendon, and brings Zimmerman and Strasburg out of retirement too?

No effing way lol, hope this never happens.

Well, I’d rather he go there than the Mets.
