That will probably help their lineup.

An article on MLB said the teams that will be bidding for Soto during the off-season besides the Yankees are:

Mets
Phillies
Red Sox
Cubs
Nationals

The other teams bring in a lot more revenue than the Nationals do. I don't think the Phillies will be in position to pony up enough money. Of all those teams I'd least like to see him go there.

I think we're lucky he didn't take that contract with the Nats.

Loved Soto working a walk last night on Skenes. About the only guy to win an at bat against him since his call up.

I saw an interview with Soto before the game and he said he was going to try his best to get on base because everybody wanted to see Skenes vs Judge. That's why he pointed to Judge when he walked.

Sounded like they were having a battle of slowest home run trots this weekend and today. Wouldn’t mind the purveyor of the piece of metal passing a home run trot clock violation which results in an automatic out if it’s not done in 20 seconds or so. Watch how quickly that would go away.

I would go for that.

He's had quite the post All star break start.

11/18 with 4 doubles and 2 HRs.

That's a .610 batting average/ 1.16 slugging percentage.

3 HRs last night. OPS of 1.042 with 33HRs already this year. The Yankees need to mortgage the stadium to sign him.

Wood reminds me of Soto. Of course Wood has a long way to go before he would be as good as Soto but they both have good pitch recognition, can hit lefties and have power. They both walk a lot so high OBP. Maybe we'll have mini Soto without the Soto salary.

Wood for Soto probably would have been a fair trade by itself.

wood walks a lot, but Soto never K'd as much as Wood. Also, Soto pulled for power more. Really all fields, but I have not seen Wood turn on balls and drive them all that much. OTOH, Soto never ran like Wood.

Soto never had the defensive pedigree that Wood is supposed to have.

that said, there's aspects that Senatorswin mentions that do remind you of Soto. There's  more swing and miss to Wood's game, but both Soto and Wood take a lot of walks. They both hit the ball very hard. Soto gets better elevation right now, but literally they are 4th and 5th in average exit velocity among hitters with over 150 PAs - Wood at 94.9 MPH, Soto at 94.7. It's just you can't push the comparison too far. Soto's 1st exposure to the majors, 1st half of 2018, he was already showing signs of complete Soto, while Wood is much more projection. Soto had his Ks below 20% with the high walk rate, had 9 HRs over 176 PAS (wood is a bit more than 150), and had .900+ OPS.

The reduction in strikeouts and the ability to pull will come with time. All the same traits are there.

He's definitely proved wrong all of the doubters who believed he made a mistake to turn down the Nats' offer. Dude is going to have the second biggest contract in baseball after this offseason.

Yep. There were many here claiming he made a mistake.

I still hope they make a serious run at signing him. I can’t think of a more depressing trade made by one of my favorite teams in any sport. Should’ve been here for his whole career.
