I think they had an eye on Gallo and a price, and when he fell to it, they signed him. I don't think they adjusted the price to account for Winker or that there were a bunch of OFs who were going to sign sub-$5 million. The team went into the off-season short on lefty power, but tbh, with Winker and Rosario, and even Abrams and Ruiz's 2d half, they might be shorter on righty power. It's Thomas and Senzel. That's why Duvall might have been a better signing than Gallo, especially at $3 million.
