Vegas is the Jolene of sports cities.  But nothing to worry about when Lake Mead turns into a salt flat.
Oakland has now lost three major sports franchises. Not easy to do. The owner is a mess but the city has messed up big time over and over.

fwiw, I'm in New England this weekend so I hear some Boston sports talk. The Red Sox needs sound almost exactly like the Nats: righty bat, front line starter, rebuild bullpen. Thought is, if Henry is willing to spend money, deal Casas in a package for a front-line starter (maybe Seattle), and perhaps sign Bregman & move Devers to first. Otherwise, perhaps getting into bidding on Burnes, but still leaves them needing a RH bat.  Someone mentioned Soto, and, despite being a lefty, the guests said in the old days, no question they would bid, but the Sox don't aim that high any more.

Damn. I really want the Red Sox to sign Soto.

So the Braves are looking good now. Arizona and the Mets both collapsing. But one of them has to make it. Braves and Mets will have a strain on their pitching staff with the doubleheader Monday. If the results are locked in after game one wonder if they will play game two?

Is it 1 admission ticket or 2? I think they might play if it is 2. Otherwise, no money at stake for a likely sellout

D Backs aren't looking very good since they lose the tie breaker to both the Mets and Braves.

It the D Backs and Braves lose today and Mets win, then the Braves and Mets would each get in with a split of the DH.   Even without funny business, the winner of the first game isn't going to have anything to play for in the second game.

For the tenth straight year, the Angels fail to make the playoffs.

Dbacks win. Finish 89-73. Mets, Barves are 88-72. Split tomorrow is a 3-way. Need to have Cope hear to explain it

Lots of parity. Only an 8 game read between best and worst in AL and probably 9 in the NL. First time I think in a while without any 100 win teams.

It seems like so many of the top teams, Dodgers, Yankees, Orioles and Braves were dealing with a lot of injuries.

Ha...

I wish they still did a playoff for last spot, and we'd have complete mayhem.

It's boring with both teams having the tiebreaker against Arizona.

I don’t know. Someone will be fighting off elimination in game two.

Nightengale notes that Diamondbacks have been told to report to the ballpark with bags packed for a playoff roadtrip. They will watch the games and find out if they are traveling, or heading home. Crazy.

I don't care who wins as long as the second game goes to 20 innings

Terry Francona to manage the Reds.  Surprising.

A group led by Dave Stewart is linked to discussions on the purchase of the White Sox...

Wonder how he'd like to put down roots in DC?

I guess the ChiSox stadium is now 30-35 years old. I don't know there's talk about a new stadium or moving. If Stewart is looking for a team to relocate, then I could see him checking out the CWS. I suspect that the Lerners would think it would be spitting on their Dad's grave if they sold the team to someone who planned to move them. As much as some hold them in contempt, I don't think the sons and daughters generation would ever agree to a deal with someone planning on moving. If it were up to the grandkids, all bets are off.

MLBTr notes:
Quote
While many of the club’s fans have been clamoring for Reinsdorf to sell the club, it’s possible their wish is being granted in monkey-paw fashion, given who the buyer could be. Stewart is well-known in the baseball world for his playing career and also his post-playing ventures as a coach, executive, agent and stint as general manager of the Diamondbacks. In recent years, he has been involved with a group that has been trying to get an MLB franchise in Nashville, Tennessee. Stewart parted ways with Music City Baseball/the Nashville Stars but told Paul Skrbina of the Nashville Tennessean in May that he still had designs on getting a team to Nashville someday. Per today’s report from Ghiroli, he is now part of a group called Smoke34, a reference to his nickname and jersey number from his playing days. Ghiroli also mentions that Stewart and partner Lonnie Murray are trying to bring a National Women’s Soccer League team to Nashville.

Sounds like White Sox fans are going to be sad they get their wish. It's always shaky when a team goes up for sale when they don't have large attendance. I hope if the Nats are ever sold it's to somebody with ties to the area.

Annette is 94...when she's gone, then all bets are off.  The in-laws want to cash out, and I can't say that I blame them...
