Grumpy posters up in here.  It's not like we have an iconic look that is being tossed out the window.  Most people outside of this website probably won't even notice a difference.

Just took more than a passing glance at the font for the road jerseys. Someone really looked at that and thought that was appealing versus painfully generic?

It looks like it was a project for an intern, and not a marketing intern

If there is nothing iconic, then do something fun. For as much hate as the cherry blossoms got, at least they sold.

I think that the cherry blossoms pretty consistently hold up as a top 5 city connect. I like it because it is this team and city and not historic. I like the older whites with just red trim and a :w: because they have a classic and clean look.

I really like the capitol dome logo. I like that it related to the Caps logo with the dome under the wings forming a W. For the Nats, the dome probably should not be worked into the :w: because, walgreens and wegmans aside, it really does tie into baseball history history here, but if Boston can wear the Marathon colors, I think there's plenty of space for the Nats Capitol dome. I'll guess that the next City Connect builds on the dome logo, maybe with the blossom branch in the background.

I've been the odd supporter of the Capitol dome logo over the curly W (which I've always found both too generic and too similar to the Walgreens logo), but...

The Capitol dome logo seems to only work as a cap logo.  Not feeling it on the jersey.  If anything, it would make for a good sleeve patch.  It might be that the jersey it's on has other problems (why is it a pullover and not a button-up?).

Even worse is that block font jersey.  Again, I'm weird in that I could sort of take-or-leave the script jerseys, but if you're going to replace them at least make it an improvement.  These look even more generic.

Sure there is: the curly W on the cap (and occasionally on the uniform), and the script “Nationals” on the uniform. That they seem to be going the old Chicago White Sox route of changing up everything nowadays doesn’t mean that they haven’t found a look that would do well to be the default standard.

Of course, if they want to make this year even more forgettable, let them drag out this road uniform and then retire it forever afterwards.

These are horrible.

The 2010’s uniforms were perfect. Never needed to be changed. These new ones are worse than the original Fuddruckers uniforms.

I’ve had several friends, not all ardent Nats fans, contact me to complain about or laugh at these.

Change is hard.  People resist it.  If they would put a better product on the field that would make all this a moot point.

Sometimes people justifiably resist change for the worse. And these would be crap if worn by a winning team, even if winning made watching the team more enjoyable overall.

I may be wrong (surely not?...   :D) but, Nike being Nike, I suspect that the block typeface is cheaper to produce than the script. You can sense their approach from the 'limited edition vapor shirt' - wider and deeper neckline, so uses less material, and has a 'lightweight' fabric, which is no doubt corporate speak for 'thinner gauge material'. It's all about the profit...

I assume there is a similar cult following for ugly baseball shirts as there is for ugly soccer shirts, so they'll get a few sales... :D   ;)

Got to say, Doo modeled the new pullover, and the one thing that stuck out was all the tattoos he has. I remember when baseball made pitchers cover tattoos on their arms because it was distracting to batters. This one did not look great live.

I agree we don’t have an iconic look. I still remember the first time I saw new uniforms going into 2011 and thought they were perfect.

These are not good. They are just bad.

Generally agree (I find the 2011/script unis kind of bland and wouldn't necessarily call them "perfect").

The script unis are not particularly iconic or original.  This new look is a downgrade from those uniforms.  Both of these things can be true.

The Pirates, Rockies, Blue Jays, Tigers, Cubs, Giants, Mariners, and Padres all manage to do something different from traditional script unis that still look good.  I don't get why this is so challenging for the Nats.

I really like the shoulder patch that has "DC" on it. I don't like anything else about these new uniforms: they look like amateur softball jerseys otherwise. I like the crisp white and bright red of the uniforms that the Nationals spent most of the 2010's wearing, they looked sharp even if they weren't super creative. Most years that decade the team was too good for the Walgreens jokes to land a hit.

I hope the retiring of the city connect cherry blossom uniforms is just a marketing gimmick so they can be brought back to great hype a few years from now, like Coca-Cola Classic.

You get an iconic look by going with a cohesive branding and sticking with it. Nats can't decide which branding they stick with and constantly shuffle between 3 directions.

On a separate uniform note, does anyone know if the Ted Lerner memorial jersey patch is going to be replaced by a corporate sponsor logo this year?
