My work laptop has been in blue screen mode of death all morning, I have a feeling I'll be taking it to the knackers sometime today.

https://www.crowdstrike.com/blog/statement-on-falcon-content-update-for-windows-hosts/

Here's the workaround:
1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment
2. Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory
3. Locate the file matching “C-00000291*.sys”, and delete it.
4. Boot the host normally.

When I try to boot up I get this

Followed by this

No evil clowns at least...glass half full!  but it's pretty much rinse, repeat between these two screens.

At one point does one just box the freaker up and send it to where the smart people are?

Ali,

They made safe mode a little more annoying to get to. This URL covers it and from the picture you had, you're almost there: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234#WindowsVersion=Windows_11 - Follow the steps for 'From blank or black screen.'

imref's steps should work once you get to that point.

Apparently if one has bitlocker configured, none of this will work.

Apparently if one has bitlocker configured, none of this will work.

If you have bitlocker enabled, here is the process you need to complete first:

Cycle through the Blue Screens to get to the Recovery screen
Navigate to Troubleshoot->Advanced Options->Startup Settings
Press "Restart"
Skip the first Bitlocker recovery key prompt by pressing Esc
Skip the second Bitlocker recovery key prompt by selecting Skip this Drive in the bottom right
Navigate to Troubleshoot->Advanced Options->Command Prompt
Type "bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal" then press enter
Go back to the WinRe main menu and select Continue
At this point it may cycle two or three times. If it put you in safe mode, log in as normal
Open Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\windows\system32\drivers\Crowdstrike
Delete the file (STARTS with C-00000291*.sys)
Click start, type 'command' and from the list right click 'Command Prompt' and Run as Administrator. It may be under 'More options'
Type "bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot" then press enter
Restart as normal and the issue should be resolved

thanks for sharing Drac.  Gotta be a rough day to be in IT (and i'm thankful that we're a Mac shop).

Did see some great tweets though: One saying that CrowdStrike broke Macs and Linux machines because their users are busy making memes today.

And another being a fake statement from crowdstrike saying that they are sorry, they were drunk, and they are checking themselves into rehab.

And to save future issues, make sure you set a time-delay for new updates in Update, rather than 'as soon as available'. Microsoft introduced that facility because of their own, rather dubious, track record of buggy updates... ;)

Got one for PWC...

My 91 year old mother passed away in August. Think you know a super-fan fan?  She has the White Sox logo on her headstone.

This week I recovered another batch of my signed baseballs from her storage unit.  This one is of particular interest.

It appears to be signed "Rich Allen." This is vintage 1972-1974 while he was with the White Sox.

PWC - Do you recall a time when he went by "Rich?"  I sure don't...I think he went from "Richie" to "Dick" while with the Sox, though sportswriters of the time may say he was a dick long before that.

Yea he was always Richie to me but probably heard him called Rich.  Didn't know he preferred Dick at that time.  That is interesting.

Yeah...I know by 1974, his last year with the White Sox, that he went by Dick...so this ball may likely be circa 1973..

Jeez, I spend more time cleaning up after Geezers than the in-home care giver my brother and I hired for my Dad.

Thought this was interesting.  If this can be found after so many years, maybe they can also find the Lerners purse strings.
