An infinite number of mathematicians...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c748kmvwyv9o

They wasted a lot of time and effort to prove they have the same issue with infinity that most people do. An infinite number of monkeys working on an infinite number of typewriters would cause an infinite amount of entropy and the immediate heat death of the universe, but would also produce not just one complete set of the works of Shakespeare but an infinite number of sets of it. You can't mix infinite amounts and finite timelines or quantities because the results are rather insane. Hell, even Graham's Number worth of monkeys would have been too large a set because there isn't physically enough room in our universe for that many monkeys, but it would have put the monkey theory into the realm of practical analysis. It's the entire point of having an extremely large number to put an upper limit on things so you don't have the infinity shenanigans.

Not sure if the article was simplifying the results and terms for the audience or if it was just a bunch of first years that don't specialize in math that wrote it.

Not quite a computer or cord cutting q: I have a 6 year old Samsung phone that was kind of limited at the time. My data plan has a 2 gig limit. I've got a question about this phone and am looking for a recommendation on a new one.

On this phone, the data is getting close to 80+% of the memory.  1/2 gig out of 2, with 1 gig for system and apps. For 16 gigs of storage, there's 13.4 gigs of system/user data and 2.6 gigs free. Is there a way to clean out remnants of old files and other nonfunctional crud? I've been getting clean the cache messages for temp files a ton, which I do, but I think that's related to so little free memory.

Second, what I'm looking for I think is a new plan with unlimited data and 1 line, probably with a new phone. I have been with Verizon from my 1st phone. I was thinking maybe Visible, which I guess is Verizon's a la carte affiliate.

A useful guide...

https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/top-free-phone-cleaner-app-android/

Easier to use a third-party app than manually locating, and deleting, all junk points. FWIW, Mrs Natsie has CCLeaner on her Android device.

Of course older, out of warranty, devices give scope for experimentation - how about going over to Ubuntu Touch?... ;)

Mitch Tischler has a face for radio and a voice for newspapers...

If he's an "Operations Manager" he ought to stick to operations.  Not sure of his value added on-air component...seems to ride the other guys coattails with that goofy smile of his.  Not as bad as FP though...

That is all...

44 years ago today.

Quote
“Remember, this is just a football game, no matter who wins or loses,” he said. “An unspeakable tragedy, confirmed to us by ABC News in New York City: John Lennon, outside of his apartment building on the West Side of New York City, the most famous, perhaps, of all of the Beatles, shot twice in the back, rushed to Roosevelt Hospital, dead on arrival. Hard to go back to the game after that news flash, which in duty bound, we had to take.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2024/12/08/john-lennon-howard-cosell-monday-night-football/

nice article. Describes how Cosell and Lennon intersected a few times. Lennon was amazed by American football. Cosell tried to book a Beatles reunion for his Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell show. IIRC, this show was on when SNL started, so the first year it was NBC Saturday Night and not Saturday Night Live.

Also, I've mentioned before, John Smith, at the time the only English player in the NFL, missed the field goal attempt after the Cosell break in.

It seems phone spammers have figured out a way of leaving a message in your voicemail without having your phone ring or having the call appear in your history. You basically have to log into your voicemailbox and start to listen before you delete.

Could your carrier be flagging them as spam or robocalls and kicking them directly to voicemail? I have a call-blocker installed that does that, for example.

they don't show up in phone history. Regular spam calls show up there and I get a little icon saying potential spam was blocked. no evidence of missed call or spam or call received with  these v-mails. Verizon wireless is my carrier.

Umm, good mice pies!    :spaz:

Ok, here's a funny.  I stumbled into this old Greaseman bit.  I think someone took one of his "Lawman" bits from back in the day and made a short film out of it. Weird and funny.  (BTW he's fat and old now but still has the pipes).
