UFL - United We Stand as a Football League
« on: November 30, 2023, 01:43:35 pm »
XFL/USFL merger official announcement is today. They are renaming to the United Football League and will push out the start of the season to March 30.

Here are the teams:

From the XFL
Arlington Renegades
DC Defenders
San Antonio Brahmas
St Louis BattleHawks

From the USFL:
Birmingham Stallions
Houston Gamblers
Memphis Showboats
Michigan Panthers

Seems like a terrible idea to abandon the XFL name.

I'm somewhat more interested in knowing which league's rules they'll use.

Glad to see the ****ing Seattle SeaDragons gone, I hated that team and its garbage players.

Defenders games were a blast last year and I hope we can keep up the momentum in 2024. Would love to see Jordan Te'amu back.

I got a kick out of the Houston coach trying to review a call that had already been confirmed.

The fan experience at these games is awesome. We’re about two sections over from the beer snake. It’s just about to the scoreboard.

I'll have to mention this to my daughter...my 5 year old grandson would likely get a big kick out of this too...

Went to the Defenders game today in DC. They fell behind early, rallied back to almost take the lead, and the completely collapsed in the 4th quarter. Crowd was about 16k and quite lively.  It was freaking hot in the end zone seats (81 degrees in the sun). This team is doing well building a fan base, almost everyone wore some sort of Defenders shirt / hat / etc.

Defenders winning. Memphis has Vinny Papale as a WR. Son of Vince Papale.  Played by Mark Wahlberg in the greatest movie ever made Invinceable.

DC is losing its coaching staff just before the season gets going. HC Reggie Barlow is heading to Tennessee State. He's taking DC Gregg Williams, and OC Fred Kaiss. He's also bringing along Shannon Harris whom the team named as interim head coach upon Barlow's resignation.

They'll be fine as long as they have the beer snake...nobody actually cares the game anyway...it's just an in-stadium tailgate party.

The beer snake is heading to Tennessee as well.

Yeah, the team and games lost their luster quite a bit when Snyder sold the Commanders. Before that, the games were as much a Dan Snyder protest as anything else.  We did make it to one game last year and enjoyed ourselves. Audi Field is a great venue.

It looks like the opener is scheduled at the same time as a Caps home game. Dumb move.

No one really cares.  Take the party elsewhere.
