Bench Coach Tim Bogar, Third Base Coach Gary Disarcina, and Assistant Hitting Coach Pat Roessler, and Eric Young Jr will not return

Hickey stays
My impression had been that the coaching staff were all on the same page and worked well together.  I'm surprised.

Hickey is a disaster, but he stays because he's Davey's boy.

EY, Jr was awesome, loved his high energy congrats when guys got on base and when they came into the dugout after pregame warmups.

The dysfunction is getting sickening.

Story in the Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/10/09/nationals-coaching-staff-moves/

Baffling. This sort of thing usually includes the pitching coach and tells the manager pack up.

Again, a few folks here wanted a shakeup. This is a pretty big shakeup. I'm interested to see who gets hired. The only things I'm mildly upset about are EY being let go and Hickey being retained.

I guess if I thought they were really trying to improve the staff, versus probably saving a few bucks by hiring more inexperienced coaches, I would be pleased.

Haas is making more than the guy he replaced according to several reports.

I agree about EY. While we joke about "drink" blunders, I think the base-running has improved, and I think he had a decent relationship with the most dangerous base runners (CJ, Lane, and Young). I hope this doesn't mean they are going to be less aggressive. With the new rules and the absence of power, I thought the aggression was a good thing.

As for Hickey, I really don't know what the deal is. How much has he helped Gore / Gray / Irvin as well as Harvey, Garcia, and Weems? Harvey and Garcia are big step up guys, and making Irvin a contributor is a credit.

Also, I want to see what happens with Henry Blanco. It sounds like he's practically the bench coach now.

I wonder how much of this is because a few of these guys were working with the infielders on defense and they weren't showing improvement or at least success in harnessing their skills? I think Bogar and DiScarcina had that on their plate.

They will save that on the coaches.

When your two main coaches are returning I don’t think you can call that a shakeup.

well, the bench coaches and the base coaches are bigger than the hitting coach.

I suspect Blanco is in line for the bench coach slot.

Agree on the bench coach. But not the base coaches.

Is it? Cus replacing mid level/subordinate managers doesnt seem like a big shake up. The pitching and hitting philosphies are still here.

DiPuglia quit. Watson was fired. Bench, First Base, Third Base, and assistant hitting coaches all let go. It's as close to a clean out as we are going to get.

Bill Mueller has left the Nats player development department to become the assistant hitting coach for the Marlins.

Tim Bogar and Pat Roessler, members of last year’s coaching staff whose contracts weren’t renewed, have found new homes. Bogar will be the manager of the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Class AA affiliate. He had been with the Nationals since 2018 and served as the team’s bench coach for the past four seasons. Roessler, the team’s assistant hitting coach a year ago, joined the New York Yankees in the same role.

Bogar was an MLB manager at one point, so this is sort of a restart of that track.
