Brzykczy will be the most likely to be grabbed. 60 day il at the start of the year then stash in the bullpen after a rehab stint. TJS is a more likely recovery than TOS

I don't understand why they'd risk losing anybody at this stage of the rebuild given some of the guys available to DFA.

Well, take a guy like Willingham. He was essentially the hot shot reliever last year, along with Cronin. I can get not pulling the plug quite yet.

Abbot and Downs seem like easy cuts to me.

I had been thinking was June back on the mound but it looks like they're saying June to the majors

Some deadlines this week:

- Tuesday, 5PM CT: Deadline to add players to the 40-man to protect them from the Rule-5 draft. Other than Herz, it doesn't look like the Nats will be protecting anyone else. Rule 5 draft is December 6.

- Friday at 6PM CT: Deadline to non-tender arbitration eligible players. Victor Robles and Dominic Smith are the guys to watch here.

Also, players who have received QOs have until 3PM CT tomorrow to accept or reject them.

Via TalkNats, here are our arb-eligibles and estimates:
Dominic Smith (5.081): $4.3MM
Victor Robles (5.033): $2.7MM
Tanner Rainey (4.127): $1.5MM
Hunter Harvey (4.047): $2.2MM
Lane Thomas (4.014): $7MM
Kyle Finnegan (4.000): $5.1MM
Luis Garcia (2.142): $2.4MM

It's possible that they are negotiating with Robles and Smith, trying to get them to take low ball offers. If they don't, then they could free up a roster spot or two for Henry, Brzykczy, etc... or it might mean somebody like Abbott is let go to make room. I'm also not writing off Parker.

In the Laurila column, Rizzo mentioned both Henry and Parker (as well as Herz and Bennett) as important organizational depth for the rotation. Bennett doesn't need to be added, Herz has been added, Henry has the injury concern. . . I think Parker may end up added.

Dom Smith should just be released. He has no value and is the definition of a replacement player. I personally would like to move on from Robles, but I can see him getting another shot and if he catches some fire, he could be flipped for ORG depth.

Wish granted, Smith DFA'd. Abbott DFA'd as well and Machado released to head to Japan.

Brzykczy, Henry, Herz, and Parker added.

Makes a ton of sense. Henry and Br... could be grabbed and stashed on the IL at the start of the year. As between Parker and Abbott, Parker is a lefty and upside, while Abbott can be offered a minor league contract with a spring invite if can't get an MLB deal (spoiler alert, he's not getting an MLB deal).

I feel vindicated as I and several others have been calling him out since May

Sign Candelario for 3B, put Meneses at 1B, sign ?? (sign LF Duvall?), and...still need a DH. Move Candy to 1B when/if House can take 3B. Or sign Hoskins, since Bryce will play 1B forever, put ?? at 3B? Still a player short in 2024. Yes, House in 2025, but until then, who plays 3B or 1B or DH?

As I have posted ad nauseum have Ruiz DH. He is a liability at catcher and you have Millas and Adams to catch.

That would solve it...although Riley A. has that broken bone in his hand.

Glad that we've moved on from Smith. That's one I didn't understand at all after the AS break.

Jeebus. I speak Polish and I struggle with that one. I imagine like many Polish-American names, it won't be pronounced correctly, even within the family. Basically, "bschik-chy"

After the all-star break Ruiz hit .300 with an OPS of 809.
