Hallo,

"The Leeches of Baltimore" is just me calling out the Orioles' management for not getting their act together. The pitching's been a mess, and the team's overall performance is straight-up disappointing. I'm just tired of waiting around—I wanna see a squad that's actually gonna compete in 2024.

James

Went to the game today vs Detroit (who won). No playoff clinch yet for Baltimore. Some observations:
- The scoreboard continues to be atrocious. We sat in the lower level in the LF corner and could barely read it
- The PA system has improved, we could hear player announcements
- There are no water refil stations. The staffer I spoke with says they are supposed to be installed next year
- Food options on the lower concourse are fantastic, arguably much better than Nats park. For the first time in nearly 30 years of irregularly attending games in Baltimore, I finally had Boogs BBQ.
- Fans are far more into the game (the stadium was probably 80% full). Very different vibe from Nats park where it always seems that most of the fans are 20-somethings who are spending most of the game texting.
- I still much prefer the game experience at Nats park.

- Agree about the scoreboard.
- Hung out with Boog recently. He's a fantastic guy.
- Did they have the left field upper deck open?
- Nats Park is much better.

The concourse is too tight at Orioles Park, but the fans are way more into the games.

I wonder if Nats fans would be more into it if the Nats were more competitive. The O's field a pretty interesting product now.

As for the food, I think I disagree. Boogs > Ben's, but I think the Nats carts are terrific and offer variety.

Boogs was fantastic. But then I realized that my seats were right by the Jimmy's Famous Seafood stand and I instantly regretted my purchase. :)

I used to love the grill dogs there. Large, probably not footlongs but big, and high quality.

Is it now 11 straight playoff game losses?

Edit: it’s 10, but still…

I thought we didn't hate the Orioles anymore now that Angelos is gone?

Disappointing to see them flounder, definitely a season where they underperformed.

Still fun to make fun of them. You don’t think their fans had joy at Nats playoff failures?

I guess Rutschman had a horrible 2d half and I'm not sure that the injured guys they brought back like Westburg were quite ready. The starting pitching didn't let them down, and that was supposed to be their weakness.

They used to have a "Maryland dog" which had pretty much what one would expect (crabby stuff, old bay).  It was terrifying.

Years ago I had some kind of smoked (Polish?) sausage from one of the stands way up at the top of the upper deck and it was fantastic. They had this delicious red sauce with onions in it which I've come to find out is a popular hot dog condiment in New York. Sadly, the next time I was there this stand was gone.

I have hated the Baltimore Orioles since I was little and a beer baron stole the Browns and dropped them in the area that belonged to our Washington Senators / Nationals.

St. Louis originally stole the team from Milwaukee.  The Brewers.

Maybe not a steal. As I read it, the Milwaukee Brewers of the American Association had never been srtrong, and Ban Johnson intened to move them to St. Louis when the AA was renamed the American League and named itself a "major league". Milwaukee got a year to prove itself "major", but could not. The Brewers moved to St. Louis as the Browns in 1901.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Louis_Browns

Milwaukee was the 15th largest city in the US in 1901, while St. Louis was the 4th largest. Baltimore, another small city, fell back into a minor league town when the AL moved them to New York as the Highlanders.
