yes. They brought in a lefty, so they PH Kieboom, then moved Every Day Every Play Every Year over to 2nd.

So they think Garcia cannot hit lefties? Is he Just a Platoon Bat?

Wasn’t there a pitcher for Detroit that lost 20 games one season. His explanation was he couldn’t be that bad if he got that many starts. He must have been Corbin’s mentor

thinking it was maybe Jeremy Bonderman. Actually, no. Bonderman lost 19, it was another pitcher who was actually mediocre who lost 20. Began with an M

Sounds like Denny McClain. Or Bobo Newsom, who lost 20 a couple times and won 20 a couple times ...

Mike Maroth, 2003, 21 losses. Bonderman did lose 19. Bonderman I think pitched in their 2006 rotation.

I looked it up...Bobo, who pitched for the Nats, lost 20 games three times:

- 1934 for the STL Browns

- 1941 for Detroit

- 1945 for the Philadelphia A's

And Bobo won 20 games three times:

- 1938 for the Browns

- 1939 for the Browns and Tigers

- 1940 for the Tigers

He also pitched for the Nats four different times. He was nicknamed "Bobo" because he could not remember names, so he called everybody "Bobo".

(And remembering Bobo Newsom and Connie Marrero is more fun than watching the end of this dreary season.

Got to wonder . . . do they clean out the lockers tomorrow and leave from Atlanta for home, or do they come back for a couple of days?

I’m thinking you are correct. McLain lost 20 +when he pitched for the Senators in one of the worst trades in history

That and their hitting has them at 99 wins.  Their starters don’t scare anybody.

dude was only 20 when he broke in that year. threw 162 innings. After that, he threw 184, 189, 214, and 174 innings each of the next 4 years, peaking in a 14-8 2006 (4.08 ERA, 3.29 FIP) and 5+ fWAR. injured in 2008 & 2009, pitched poorly in 2010, failed comeback in 2013, and out of baseball. Case in point why you manage young pitchers innings and don't throw them to the wolves.

Made me curious. Was a first round draft pick of the As out of high school and looks like his only year in the minors was 2002.  156 innings there but he was clearly rushed as a young guy.

was he traded along with Carlos Pena for . . . David Justice? . . .to clear space for Hatteberg at first in the Moneyball year?

Here’s his wiki page. Three way trade.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Bonderman

Not here but another source says the blood clot was linked to TOS. Also he was drafted as a high school junior as he had completed his high school requirement.

He wasn't a bad pitcher.  Maroth wasn't awful either, just had a down year that season and wasn't young enough for them to spare his ego on a horrendous team (someone needed to take those losses).

the blood clots in the shoulder sounds interesting now with our TOS issues. Doesn't sound like he had a bunch of surgeries. I do wonder about the innings he piled up young. 200+ innings at 23? one more season of 174 then pfftt.
