Naively optimistic here, I'm hoping the inconsistent play of this team is due to its youth with little meaningful veteran stability. They've played well for most of the season (35-26 pace) but have had 3, and no more than 3, g-dawful stretches of 1-6, 0-7, and 0-11 where they just looked lost and broken. I don't think they are in "turn out the lights, the party's over" stage for Rizzo's tank and rebuild, but they absolutely cannot contend without plugging significant holes.

If you take most teams best 61 games, you do a lot better than 35-26.  Moreover, they've looked lost in many of those games with awful baserunning, defense, and playing-the-contract.

in terms of "best games, " of course you are right. But if you just knock out the 3 worst stretches for sub-.500 teams, I have my doubts. It's why I emphasized streakiness. 1-24 is pretty uncommon over 3 blocks of games. Bad teams are rarely that bad and significantly above .500 the rest of the time

I get what you're saying, but this team has the highest negative run differential in MLB except for the Rockies

They're coming back to the field at 36-29 in games other than their 1-24 combined record during those 3 losing runs...

They've Arrived!
