Denard Span would have caught that in his back pocket
It's a different era, so K rates are higher, but do you Brett Butler as a comparable? He's got the ~10% BB rate of Butler in his 20s. Butler of course walked more than he K'd over his career, but I could see Young's K rate maybe dropping to a well below league average level like 13%. Current league average is ~23%, so his 17% is pretty good. Steals will be a big part of his game. Young is good defensively, but so was Butler up to his early 30s.
When I wrote my comment Young K 9 times in 45 AB’s. Isn’t that 20%?
I’m more concerned with his recent streak of being 0 for 14 starting with the Bucs series.
Young is a Call upgrade next season. Nothing more.
thinking Robles is back if his back is ok
that's going to be interesting. I don't think that it's a lock that they pick up the $3.3 million option on Robles.
I agree, especially with his back. But I don't think they sign a FA, Crews isn't ready, and Call and Young don't look like Mlb starters
Robles is a litmus test for ownsership. Nothing Young has done or shown would give him the starting job in 2024 over a healthy Robles. Its only 3 million bucks.
The only other reason not to would be if they were committed to bringing up the best performing, higher level prospect if Young / Call are flailing next April.
If crews has a good spring he makes the club.
I'm not sure if this is turning into a broader discussion of "Jabob Young's Audition and the Centerfield Conundrum" but there's a lot of moving parts here.
