Zimmerman's last above average season as a hitter was his age 33 season and last played at all at 36. Cruz would be a good example though.

Cruz was suspended for PEDs yet has never tested positive. His drug guy is better than the MLB test.

Also better than Zim's because at ag 33, Cruz was dropping 40 bombs

It would look like this. This is the aggregated OPS for all NL players for 2023 season to date.

Here's the age some of these big dollar long term contracts will end:

Trout - 39
Betts - 39
Judge - 39
Machado - 41
Harper - 39
Stanton - 38
Cole - 37
Bogaerts - 41
Turner - 41

I suspect most of these will be ugly at the end. If they produce a world series it should be worth it. If not, probably not.

They will have all recouped their bad years in jersey sales by then. Worth it to the owners.

None of those contracts are prohibiting the owners from putting a competitive team on the field

I expect Betts to turn out to be the best of all of those. Cole will turn out well, and I think Judge and Harper have a good shot at still being above average at the end. the 40+ year old guys on the left side of the infield and the outfielders showing significant tailing already due to health will be the ones that feel like Stras now.

Stanton is already crippled.

Trout seems to have injury issues and Harper has the back issues in addition to the TJ surgery.

I can see Turner moving to 2B.

Yea, I think Harper and Judge will constantly be on the IL at the end of their contracts.
