What a shock. A guy who hasn't started in the majors in a year has trouble when you leave him in to face the third time through the line-up.

Ok. 87 pitches. Try for 1 more, oris it Weems Thompson Finnegan (la sorsa or ferrer at some point)

I wonder if Kolko realizes the deeper meaning of the Hellickson comparison, in that Hellickson was on a short leash where he was not sent out to face the line-up a third time no matter how well he was pitching.

Machado gets his inning. Save Finnegan to put out a fire.

Weems does it again. And now we know where Thompson has been, lately.

Weems is the kind of reliever salvage job you expect out of the big data teams.

RBI in the top of the inning, nice running catch in the bottom of the inning for Vargas.

This is a much better team than it was to start the year and we’re probably over .500 if not for the BP.

With the :w: posted, we honor our friend Old Chelsea with the traditional post that tracks the Nats wins to date, in Anglophile style.

THE RACING PRECEDENTS - Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 48th win, each season:

2016 - 30th June (80th match of season)
2017 - 2nd July (82nd match)
2005 - 1st July (79th match)*
2012 - 5th July (80th match)
2014 - 6th July (87th match)
2015 - 12th July (87th match)
2019 - 12th July (91st match)
2013 - 14th July (95th match)
2018 - 15th July (96th match)
2011 - 18th July (96th match)
2021 - 30th July (103rd match)
2006 - 1st August (107th match)
2007 - 2nd August (108th match)
2010 - 4th August (108th match)
2023 - 5th August (111th match)
2008 - 27th August (133rd match)
2022 - 5th September (135 match)
2009 - 10th September (140th match)
---
2020 - finished 26-34

in 2022, this win marked the end of a 6 out of 8 streak, one of two that year.

In 2010, the win on 8/4 started a 1-6 streak.

In 2007, the 48th win was the 3rd in a 6 game winning streak that left the Nats 51-60.

Davey Martinez can tie Frank Robinson as the 4th winningest manager in Expo/Nats history with 17 more wins. He's at 368-450.

This team is turning the corner.   I’m not sure we need to see Vargas or Chavis play the rest of the year.  Get Baker up here
