I had wanted Crews for quite a while, then talked myself into Skenes. But Pirates made it easy. I’m all in.

Okay. I’m over not getting Skenes. I’m pumped. Crews is going to be a monster.

We've got the next Aaron Judge, the next Bryce Harper and probably the next Mike Schmidt, and all will be here within 2 years. The culture is damn good.

His body and speed are closer to Trout. just saying. And Judge can't match Wood's speed.

In Rizzo we trust. Right?  Don’t need those newfangled analytics weenies.

Yo Yo has a good bat. (Gotta rep my fellow Hurricane.) Where in the org will he likely be placed?

Gonna want the discussion of the rest of the draft picks to go in the Farm, and will start moving posts there.

Yes, and I remember the culture reference.

We see that Crews has been tested in games after game as a high school player and at LSU. He is real. And, as bluestreak and Zim1win suggest, Yohandy Morales looks like he will be the slugging 1B that other teams seem to develop...the ideal there would be a hitter like Pete Alonso.

With Gray, Gore, Cavalli, Irvin, Rutledge, and Bennett, the rotation looks like it will be good. Imagine Henry and, later, Susana, in the bullpen. Better days soon. "The next Stephen Strasburg" would have been nice, but "the best position player in the draft" is great.

I only feel like we've been slighted because we really need pitching. That being said, the Cubs have shown you can stock up on good position player talent, sign a few veteran arms, and win a World Series.

But if your organization can’t develop pitching, it’s probably better to accumulate lower risk position players and then trade for pitching after someone else can do the work.

Hell, keep drafting and developing position players and just keep a revolving door outside of the super studs (assuming Wood, Crews, and House become super studs). Just pay for pitching instead of trading for it.

I'm actually decently encouraged by the development of Gray and even Irvin this year. Maybe Rizzo's 95 year old coaches are doing something after all before hitting up Denny's for the early bird special.

Don't forget that Rizzo kept drafting starting pitching before 2021...Cavalli, Rutledge, Henry, the "Big Three", for instance.

Interesting to see how they draft in Round Three and later.

He even brought Mee-Maw in there. Sounds like the right guy.

I am so loving that. You know, the "I won't sign with the Pirates unless I get $10 million" and Boras probably saying "I know the Nats, they will not game you out of Super-2 and they'll push you to the majors fast" sounds like this was his wish and they made it happen.

And a wrinkle in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement gives a team an extra first round pick if its first year player wins Rookie of the Year. That's Crews next season.

One thing to consider - Rizzo has used a lot of high draft picks on high school players.  That's okay if you have a $190 million payroll and contending every year.  However, when that dried up 2 seasons ago, the Nats needed players immediately and the high schoolers like Rutledge were still in the low levels of the minors.

If you want draft picks to hit the Bigs sooner, you need to focus on college players.  You don't have 4-5 years to get a high school kid - regardless of talent - ready for the majors.  Guys like Harper and Soto came up as teenagers, but that's a rarity.

Wat
discussed on the mlb draft thread in The Farm. If a team has a draft pick who wins RoY the following year, they get a draft pick at the end of the first round. If they have a player who finishes 2nd or 3rd in RoY voting the year after they are drafted, the team gets an extra international signing slot.  This is part of the new CBA to encourage teams to bring up their star draftees rather than keep them in the minors to manipulate service time.

Yeah I had to Google it. What an insane rule. I get the intent but all these draft rules with extra picks, comp picks, market size picks, back to back year limitations… it’s insane

does it have to be start of the year in the majors in order to get the potential extra pick?
