Watching the game..this might even get the Oilers' goal differential back down to minus a thousand.  Maybe Alberta teams just drag each other down, like codependent head-case exes.  Flames: "I've always hated you, let's have dinner!!"  Oilers: "OK, but let me bring my wingman, Kraken"

I read some of that yesterday.  Well they asked Corey to be a father figure to Connor.  Have any of the gory details been confirmed?

Always thought the kid had talent and he had a nice run with the Panthers at the end of the regular season last year. Glad he's getting the playing time. Kid was a serious contender for the Richter and Dryden awards his last years in college. I think he won the Dryden Award (best eastern goalie).  This is from memory but will check his wiki.

Edit - 2 time Dryden Award winner as a sophomore and a junior.

Bedard scores the Michigan or Lacrosse goal. Quite a talent.

Making the playoffs in the East this year will be difficult.  Several teams bunched up. Only looks like CBJ and Ottawa only ones out of it.

is high sticking only when you make contact? he doesn't hit the goalie, but he waves it right at his face.

gee, that's a heck of a line.

Quote
Isaac Howard scored twice in the second period and the U.S. beat host Sweden 6-2 on Friday to capture gold at the IIHF world junior hockey championship.

Boston College‘s Gabe Perreault, a 2023 first-round pick of the New York Rangers, had a goal and two assists. BC’s Ryan Leonard, the eighth pick of the Washington Capitals, and Zeev Buium, a top 2024 draft prospect who plays at Denver, each scored a goal and captain Rutger McGroarty had an empty netter.
...
BC’s Will Smith, the No. 4 pick of the San Jose Sharks, added two assists. McGroarty, a Winnipeg Jets prospect who plays at Michigan, also had an assist for a two-point performance. Detroit Red Wings draft pick Trey Augustine — a teammate of Howard’s at Michigan State — picked up the victory in goal for the U.S.

You left out the most important guy. Cutter Gauthier.  Future Flyer star was the tournament leading scorer and named to the all tournament team.  And the best forward.  At BC they have left him play with the lesser lights and he still excels.  Has played some wing and known for his shot.  Take a look at the game winner versus Finland in the semis.  Apparently he has learned to pass also as he had ten assists for the tourney.

Big year for the East in college hockey. Top 3 in the USCHO poll are BC, BU, and Quinnipiac.

Nightmare road trip for the blackhawks: five losses, five forwards injured including Bedard out indefinitely with a broken jaw.

Fix is in.  They will get the first pick again.  Or the Penguins.

I take back all the nice things I said about Cutter.  Told the Flyers he was never going to play for them so they traded him to the No Longer Mighty Ducks.

NHL Players in the Olympics again (probably no current Caps except maybe Fehervary or Protas, assuming that no Russian teams will be competing by 2026)

Only saw the first period but Bruins and Oilers must have been quite a game. 6-5 Boston in OT.

Saw this on the interwebs.  Flyers become the first non original six team to reach 5000 points.  The Blues are a few years behind.  It pains me to see teams way below them like Pittsburgh and the Islanders with more Cups.

Presidents Trophy is crazy this year.  Two teams have 98 points and another five have 97.  Of course no one wants to win it because bad luck in the playoffs.

This is pretty amazing.

https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2024/03/ivan-fedotov-to-finish-season-with-flyers.html

Just a couple years ago he was in Russian detention for allegedly evading military conscription which was really weird because he was playing for basically what is the Red Army team. Then this year that team signed him to a two year contract even though he already had a contract in place with the Flyers.  Now the Flyers have worked a deal. Many $$$ I bet.  Or maybe the Russian hockey federation realized it was just a bad look.
