I was pretty resigned to the prospect of the team treading water, at best, and then a definite slide as Ovi wraps up his career. While it was obvious that the team would make some moves, I’m pleasantly surprised by how well the off-season seems to have gone and am optimistic about ‘24-‘25.

I think it’s generally expected he’ll land on LTIR for the whole season, much as Backstrom did for most of last season.

Caps are currently about $13 million over the salary cap, so probably some more deals to come.

Oshbabe and Backy on LTIR will put them $1.6MM+/- under the cap...even with Kuzy's dead cap hit...

Rumors on Twitter today that the Hurricanes are going to buy out Kuznetsov and that he then plans to sign with SKA. I wonder how that affects the Capitals' salary cap situation. They retained part of his salary in the trade sending him to the Canes.

Edited to add: Apparently it would be a contract termination rather than a buyout, in which case the cap hit goes away entirely.
